Overview
The Certified Peer Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals navigating their recovery journey from mental health and/OR substance use challenges. This position involves utilizing personal experiences to provide mentorship, encouragement, and guidance to peers. The Certified Peer Specialist fosters a supportive environment that promotes empowerment and self-advocacy, helping individuals develop coping strategies and achieve their personal goals.
Duties
- Provide one-on-one support and mentoring to individuals in recovery, sharing personal experiences to inspire hope and resilience.
- Assist peers in setting and achieving personal goals related to their recovery journey.
- Facilitate group sessions focused on skill-building, coping strategies, and shared experiences.
- Employ motivational interviewing techniques to encourage self-discovery and personal growth.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to develop individualized support plans tailored to each peer's needs.
- Engage in crisis management and intervention when necessary, ensuring the safety and well-being of peers.
- Maintain confidentiality while documenting interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills in behavioral health, addiction counseling, and crisis intervention.
Requirements
- MUST BE CERTIFIED AS A PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST IN IDAHO
- First aid/CPR certified
- Certification as a Peer Specialist or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
- Strong understanding of behavioral health systems, mental health counseling, and addiction counseling principles.
- Experience with crisis management and intervention techniques is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to effectively engage peers in their recovery process.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to ongoing personal recovery and professional development within the field.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.69 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 15 per week
