About the EMT Trainee Position:
As an EMT Trainee, you will embark on a 20-week intensive training course designed to equip you with all the skills needed to be an EMT. Throughout your training, all tuition costs and necessary supplies will be fully covered by Patriot EMS, including the costs associated with certification and licensing tests.
In addition to classroom-based learning, Trainees are required to attend a minimum of one ride-along per week. This will provide you with a hands-on opportunity to experience the day-to-day realities of the EMT role and reinforce the lessons learned during coursework.
Further, EMT Trainees may be offered paid duty shifts when available, assisting in event stand by, dispatch, non-medical transport, etc.
Upon successful completion of your training and passing of your licensing exams, you will be required to fulfill an 18-month period of full-time employment as an EMT with Patriot EMS. This allows you to immediately put your skills into practice and gain invaluable field experience.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Participates in EMT course to become a licensed EMT provider.
- Patriot EMS covers the cost tuition and course materials, in addition to paid duty shifts when available.
- Successfully completes the practical exam for becoming a certified EMT following the completion of the course work
- Successfully completes the National Registry of EMT examination to become a certified EMT following the completion of the practical exam.
- Upon licensure, the EMT trainee will be assigned a shift as a full time Field EMT employee and will be contracted as such for an 18 month period
- Under the supervision of instructors, Field Training Officers, or other designated personnel the following job functions will be completed:
- Provides emergency medical care at the basic life support level according to Patriot EMS practices and policies, established protocols, verbal and written orders and state regulations
- Monitors patients while in transport and continues treatment initiated on the scene
- Drives an emergency vehicle under emergent and non-emergent conditions
- Perform patient assessments and initiate appropriate treatment
- Maintains ambulance in operable conditions, which includes cleanliness, orderliness and prompt restocking of equipment and supplies; determines vehicle readiness by checking fuel, lights, tires, and start/stop capabilities
- Maintain communication and medical equipment in the field and report defects for repair or replacement
- Respond to runs from dispatch
- Coordinate with healthcare facilities regarding patients' condition
- Complete patient care reports and other documentation
- Provides age-appropriate care (i.e. neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric)
- Reassures patients and bystanders by working in a confident and efficient manner
- Coordinates public safety personnel in emergency situations
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Valid Georgia Driver's License - must meet and remain in compliance with Patriot EMS driver eligibility policy
- Acceptable MVR and background in accordance with company standards
- Must be able to dedicate full time hours to the EMT coursework, testing, exams, and training over a 20 week period
Note on Program Costs:
While all costs associated with the EMT Trainee program are covered by Patriot EMS, it is important to note that individuals may become responsible for any and all costs if the course requirements are not fulfilled or the post-certification employment contract is not fully satisfied.
