Our property management company is seeking a Real Estate Accountant. You’ll be responsible for keeping our financial records organized, including tracking accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring that each account is reconciled correctly. Real Estate Accountant Responsibilities
- Create detailed journal entries and post them to the general ledger (GL) to track all income statements and expenses
- Handle all accounts payable and receivable on a daily basis to make sure each invoice and expense report is accurate (including processing and depositing rent checks, tracking security deposit dispositions, bill entering etc.)
- Handle all credit card reconciliation and payments. Ensuring all Receipts are entered for each entity.
- Reconcile all owner accounts at the beginning of each month
- Enter financial data into computer software, making sure all bills and invoices are filed correctly
- Process and manage company payroll
- Monitor mileage tracking
- Keep in touch with tenants as needed for rent collections (responsible for tracking and sending non-payment notices)
- Answer billing questions from service vendors
- Prepare monthly reports for owners along with written analysis of property performance
Real Estate Accountant Qualifications
- High school diploma & Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required (more education and/or experience will be weighted when discussing compensation)
- Experience in accounting, real estate accounting, or property management accounting preferred
- Experience in real estate industry preferred
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting software, such as Quickbooks
- Proficient in property management software (we use Appfolio)
- Solid written and verbal communication skills are a must
