About the Role
Paul Smith's College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to serve as our Butterfly House Coordinator. This full-time position plays a crucial role in the operation of our Visitor Interpretive Center's native-species Butterfly House.
Key Responsibilities
- Husbandry and Care: Oversee the health, well-being, and husbandry of all native Lepidopteran species in the exhibit, including capture, care, and maintenance of Lepidoptera in various life stages.
- Enclosure Maintenance: Ensure the daily upkeep of the Butterfly House gardens, providing adequate host plant material for the animals throughout their life cycles.
- Interpretation and Education: Interpret the exhibit to the public, educating people of all ages about the biology and ecology of native Lepidoptera.
- Community Engagement: Coordinate, train, and supervise summer naturalist interns and volunteer staffing to ensure full daily coverage of the exhibit.
Qualifications and Preferences
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (wildlife or ecosystem management preferred) or advanced coursework or training.
- Certification in the National Association for Interpretation, CIG training strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of native butterfly and moth species, including husbandry, life cycle, and survival needs.
