About us

• Pawportunities Animal Welfare Services Kansas City based animal welfare organization established in 2019 in Blue Springs, Missouri. In our 5 years we have grown to be one of the larger private animal organizations in metro Kansas City.

Annually Pawportunities annually provides:

• Permanent homes to between 1000-2000 domestic animals
• Needed medical care to hundreds of local animals in need
• Free/Reduced cost vaccination clinics to metro families
• Pet food and supplies to families in need working with local community service organizations
• TNR clinics to help control local community cat population
• Custom Dog houses to outdoor pets in need
• Educational experiences in local school disctricts
• Animal Control Services to the City of Blue Springs

Pawportunities Divisions
Animal Welfare and Rescue- This was our original part of our organization saving animals and finding permanent homes for domestic and exotic animals. This started with saving 2 kittens on Craigslist, providing needed medical care, then finding them permanent homes. This now has expanded to saving thousands a year.

Animal Control Consulting Services- Our nationally trained Animal Control Officers work with regional agencies helping them improve animal control services within their local jurisdictions.

Animal Education- We work with local school districts in the classroom promoting animal care and safety. We work with the Blue Springs School District and teach part of their Veterinary Assistant curriculum in our facilities 5 days a week in a partnership with a local community collage.

Mobile Pet Grooming- In 2024 with the help of a dedicated volunteer who was a professional groomer, started Spaportunities Moble Pet Grooming services. In addition to providing clients easy access to grooming, it helps support our mission financially.

Veterinary Services- We have opened a new division of our organization in addition to providing medical care for animals in our care, we will be offering the public reduced rate spay and neuter.

We are supported by 400 plus volunteers and around 100 fosters for our animals in rescue.

We are looking for a passionate Kennel Attendant to join our team. We are an animal welfare organization that specializes in rescue and community outreach to fulfill our mission of "Changing Lives Through Animal Welfare" .

Job Overview:

A Kennel Attendant plays a crucial role in the care and well-being of animals in a kennel or animal care facility. The primary responsibilities include providing daily care, monitoring health, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring the overall welfare of animals under their supervision. The role requires a strong passion for animals, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and comfortable environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Animal Care:
• Feed and provide fresh water to animals according to specified schedules.
• Monitor and record the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to the appropriate personnel.
• Administer medications or treatments as directed by veterinarians or supervisors.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary environment for animals, including cleaning cages, kennels, and surrounding areas.
• Exercise and Enrichment:
• Provide regular exercise and playtime for animals to ensure physical and mental well-being.
• Implement enrichment activities and socialization opportunities to promote a positive and stimulating environment.
• Customer Service:
• Work with volunteers in performing daily tasks
• Assist with the check-in and check-out processes for animals entering or leaving the facility.
• Safety and Security:
• Follow established protocols for handling and restraining animals safely.
• Identify and address potential safety hazards in the kennel environment.
• Monitor and report any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral concerns.
• Cleaning and Maintenance:
• Perform regular cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting kennels and common areas.
• Wash and sanitize food and water bowls, toys, and other equipment.
• Launder bedding and towels as needed.
• Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate records of each animal's feeding schedule, medical treatments, and any notable observations.
• Update and organize records related to vaccinations, health checks, and owner information.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with animals, preferably in a kennel or veterinary setting is a plus.
• Knowledge of basic animal care and behavior.
• Ability to follow guidelines and protocols related to animal health and safety.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Physical fitness and ability to handle the physical demands of the job, including lifting and restraining animals.

Working Conditions:

The position may require working weekends, holidays, and some evenings. It involves exposure to various weather conditions and requires the ability to handle and clean up after animals.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
