Summary: The Community Engagement coordinator is responsible for managing the organization’s volunteer program, junior volunteer program, community service program, and humane education initiatives. This role also involves coordinating large group service projects, assisting with event planning, and supporting various outreach efforts. The Community Engagement Liaison is passionate about building strong community relationships, promoting humane education, and fostering a culture of compassion for animals. With a focus on engaging and inspiring the community, this position plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Paws Humane Society.
Essential Functions:
Volunteer Program Management
- Maintain current volunteer job descriptions, recruitment programs, and training initiatives, while promoting volunteer appreciation within departmental cultures.
- Resolve and correctly document any conflicts that arise with volunteers, including the actions taken to resolve them, ensuring positive, constructive relationships.
- Provide two volunteer orientations each month to ensure effective onboarding and integration of new volunteers.
- Hold quarterly recruitment fairs at Paws Humane Society to attract new volunteers and expand community involvement.
- Maintain and update the volunteer database, training volunteers and staff on how to properly utilize this resource.
- Become familiar with our volunteer database, VolunteerLocal, and be the point of contact for any questions or issues with the software.
- Develop, update, and manage the volunteer manual, contracts, and waivers.
- Foster ongoing communication with volunteers through email, newsletters, and participation in organization-wide volunteer recognition activities.
- Coordinate with department managers to plan and execute meaningful volunteer projects, ensuring groups have the necessary equipment and supplies.
- Serve as the liaison to corporate, military, clubs, and other organizations to solicit volunteers and support volunteer-driven initiatives.
- Attend shelter and community events as requested to represent Paws Humane Society’s Volunteer Program.
- Maintain up-to-date departmental protocols to ensure consistency and compliance across all volunteer programs.
- Focus on working toward the recertification of the Service Enterprise Certification.
Court-Ordered Community Service Management
- Manage the court-ordered community service program, ensuring compliance with organizational guidelines and court requirements.
- Facilitate onboarding, tracking hours, and documenting program participation.
- Address and document conflicts or issues with community service participants, taking corrective actions as necessary.
- Communicate important dates, reminders, and updates to court-ordered community service participants.
Humane Education
- Develop and staff humane education opportunities for all ages, with a focus on schools, to increase awareness of Paws Humane Society and its programs.
- Use humane education opportunities to engage new volunteers and attract financial support for the organization.
- Represent Paws Humane Society at outreach events to educate the public about animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and the organization’s mission.
- Build partnerships with schools, clubs, and community organizations to promote humane education initiatives.
- Serve as the primary contact for anyone requesting a presentation from Paws Humane Society.
- Provide humane education presentations or coordinate with trained volunteers to deliver them effectively.
General
- Assist with event planning and execution when needed.
- Become knowledgeable about Paws Humane Society, sharing our mission, programs, and accomplishments.
- Possess a clear understanding of, and adhere to, standard operating procedures and the policies and procedures of the Volunteer Department and Paws Humane Society.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and/or Qualifications Necessary to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Must have a valid driver's license and MVR record insurable by commercial insurance.
- Must be physically able to perform fast-paced, physically strenuous labor that requires walking/ standing for long periods and lifting up to 50lbs.
- Must be physically and mentally able to handle animals safely and effectively
- Must have the ability to speak normally and use normal or aided vision and hearing
- Must be able to utilize computer technology in a paper-light environment
Working Environment:
- Indoor & Outdoor shelter environment that operates 7 days a week
- Interaction with a variety of species of animals, of unknown medical history, where there is potential exposure to zoonotic disease
- Frequent exposure to common allergens and daily contact with sanitation chemicals and cleaning products
- No personal animals are allowed on the dog floor premises based upon the safety recommendations of our supervising veterinarian
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
