PAWS Shelter of Central Texas, a no-kill animal shelter, is seeking a compassionate and hard-working individual for a dual-role position combining Animal Care Technician and Adoption Counselor responsibilities. This role requires a love for animals, strong organizational skills, and the ability to interact positively with the public while ensuring the highest standards of care for our shelter pets.
Animal Care Duties:
- Feed, water, and bathe dogs.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, play yards, and animal living spaces daily.
- Monitor and manage dog playgroups while ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Interact with animals to learn their behaviors and preferences, assisting in finding the best “fur-ever” homes.
- Maintain accurate records and identification on each kennel.
Adoption Counselor Duties:
- Screen potential adopters and match pets with the right families.
- Process adoptions and provide post-adoption support.
- Perform data entry of animal information and medical histories into our database.
- Handle inquiries via phone, email, and in-person communication.
- Educate adopters on animal care, behavior, and common challenges to ensure successful adoptions.
- Handle sensitive conversations with the public professionally.
General Duties:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all working spaces, including offices and public areas.
- Collaborate with team members to support events, daily operations, and special projects.
- Treat all animals humanely, with compassion and respect, regardless of circumstances.
Qualifications:
- Must love and be able to handle dogs of all shapes, sizes, and breeds.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-friendly attitude.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks.
- Familiarity with basic computer tools, including Google Apps.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; must be at least 18 years old.
- Reliable transportation is a must! Our animals will be depending on you.
- Experience with animals, knowledge of animal behavior, or a background in rescue work is a plus.
Schedule Requirements:
This role follows a set schedule, which may be subject to change at the employer's discretion. The current schedule includes Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Candidates should be open to occasionally covering additional shifts as needed, including rotating holidays, rain or shine.
