COMMUNITY COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
The Pawtucket School Department is seeking a Communications Specialist.
This position reports to the the Supervisor of Communications. The
Communications Specialist supports student achievement by ensuring that the
Pawtucket School Department's public communications program is regularly
communicating the alignment of district goals and school based actions. This
individual will collaboratively facilitate the development of accurate, timely
internal/external communication and information processes that contribute to
and encourage community involvement in the District's efforts to meet the
instructional needs of students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Collaborate with school and district level staff to manage publicity and PR
(parent/community web-site management, and public outreach activities)
as well as creative advertising, sponsorships and other promotional
activities.
2. Assist with coordinate crisis communications for the district and schools.
3. Create and maintain district websites, social media platforms and postings,
etc.
4. Develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive internal and external
district communication plans including, but not limited to, publications,
media relations, electronic communications.
5. Ensure consistent branding and messaging.
6. Assist in maintaining two-way communication systems among schools,
offices, departments among the district, the media, and the public.
7. Organize, assimilate and disseminate facts about the Pawtucket School
Department to the public through print and non-print media.
8. Provide in-service training as required on public and community relations.
9. Provide professional assistance in the development of various publications
(brochures, newsletters, information bulletins) for school and departments.
10. Provide professional public relations counsel and assistance to the
administration and schools.
11. Recommend innovative and promotional avenues of communication for
various types of media on effective communication strategies.
12. Utilize Google calendar for organization and communication.
13. Must be timely with completion of assigned projects and maintain
organization of multiple projects simultaneously.
14. Effectively and professionally communicate informational material through
small and large presentations to diverse groups within the Pawtucket
School Department and various community partners.
15. Comply with applicable district, state, local and federal laws, rules and
regulations.
16. Photographic and written district and school event coverage.

variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
diagram or schedule form.
• Proficiency in the usage of Google and Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency in the usage of Adobe Suite.
• Demonstrated proficiency in developing and implementing large-scale
projects.
• Demonstrated success working collaboratively with community partners.
• Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents,
members of the community and others including vendors, law
enforcement and other agencies.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with
constant interruptions while maintaining organization. Proven record of
working well in a team-environment.
Requirements:
• Associates's Degree or 3 years working experience.
• Proficient in English-Spanish and Portuguese proficiency preferred.
Licenses/Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Rhode Island driver license
with a driving record acceptable to the District.
Compensation/Hours/Benefits:
Salary range - $45,000 - $55,000
Full PSD benefits package.
