Job Overview
PAYmasters Inc. located in Detroit Lakes MN is seeking a Payroll Technician to join our team. The position is primarily responsible for performing all aspects of payroll including complex calculations, running and deciphering intricate processes for verification of wages and hours, working closely with clients and employees, and providing quality customer service.
Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Manage critical, sensitive and confidential information.
- Track data, generate and distribute information.
- Prepare, process and maintain payroll and related items
- Assist in processing garnishments, wage assignments, and IRS levies.
- Assist in payroll deductions, including insurance and garnishments; complete corresponding reports; and balance deduction reports.
- Demonstrate a high level of customer service; assist employees, clients, and outside sources with payroll-related issues.
- Research and provide assistance to clients and employees regarding possible discrepancy in pay or deductions.
- Coordinate and participate in the processing of payroll including the computation of employee time, subtraction of appropriate deductions and preparation of required reports.
- Process retroactive pay adjustments.
- Analyze and troubleshoot payroll issues.
- Maintain appropriate internal controls and procedures for payroll activities
Qualified candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, possess strong communication skills, be committed to customer service, have excellent attention to detail, excellent mathematical skills, and have multi-tasking ability. Working knowledge of payroll, new employee on boarding, and accounting experience is preferred.
Experience
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field or equivalent experience.
- Two (2) plus years of experience entering large amounts of information into spreadsheets and databases under a strict deadline in a human resources or finance office.
- Experience following confidentiality guidelines and handling sensitive information.
- Ability to maintain attention to detail while experiencing frequent interruptions.
- Ability to identify and address multiple duties, work under pressure, and be flexible with changing priorities.
- Ability and desire to work cooperatively with others as a team.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, managers, supervisors, and external sources.
- Knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software applications sufficient to independently manage documents, files, and spreadsheets.
