Description
The Senior Accounting Specialist applies generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to establish the integrity of the financial statements by providing accounting and financial support to the department through the preparation and analysis of journal entries, schedules, and reconciliations. Areas of focus may include but are not limited to payroll processing, cash management, fixed assets, tax compliance, billing management and financial system management.

- Guides Accounting Specialist and other staff by answering questions as needed
- Processes daily cash receipts to the appropriate customer account and ensures reconciliation of the related batch
- Processes and/or conducts research on client invoices, returns, and credits
- Review correspondence submitted by clients and make necessary adjustments/notifications, as applicable
- Setup and or review Wire/ACH activity for processing
- Receive, review, and enter vendor invoices in accordance with firm policy guidelines
- Review and approve expense reports in accordance with firm policy guidelines
- Updates and reconciles sub-ledger activity to the general ledger or may review the work of an Accounting Specialist
- Guide staff on timesheet completion, billable hours and expenses, billing techniques and related policies and procedures
- Assist with the management of work-in-process (WIP) and outstanding accounts receivable as needed
- Ensures accuracy and compliance with laws and standards by maintaining financial records through the preparation and review of journal entries
- Process and review journal entries, both manual and electronic in support of month-end close
- Reviews general ledger activity and prepares account reconciliations and work papers for various areas which may include but are not limited to bank accounts, (WIP), accounts receivable, accounts payable and fixed assets including the review of Accounting Specialists deliverables
- Analyzes account activity and determines reconciling journal entries based on discrepancies found by researching and interpreting general ledger data
- Assist with financial planning and budgeting processes, as needed
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal management and supported groups
- Ensures processes are documented in easy-to-follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
- Reviews, updates, and identifies ways to improve existing accounting processes
- Produce bi-weekly payroll multi-state payroll, including off-cycle payments or supplemental (bonus and year ending) payrolls, as needed
- Computes wages and salaries, overtime, deductions, taxes and other withholdings.
- 6 years' experience in Finance and Accounting OR 2 years' experience with Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Banking, or Finance
- Demonstrated working knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to learn, implement and train others on accounting systems
- Ability to work autonomously
- Strong problem solving and analysis skills
- Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills
- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
- Works with confidential client matters, and as such is required to maintain confidentiality
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
