Description: The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a key member of the senior leadership team at PBS Western Reserve. This position is responsible for leading and executing the station's membership, major gifts, planned giving and grants fundraising strategies to ensure financial sustainability and growth. The CDO will oversee all aspects of fundraising activities and initiatives within an organization, including managing donor relationships, developing fundraising strategies, securing grants, and managing the development team to achieve financial goals. Additionally, the CDO will seek additional, innovative, streams of revenue. The role requires a visionary leader with exceptional communication and relationship-building skills who can inspire generosity and foster meaningful partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies that align with the mission and goals of PBS Western Reserve.
- Lead and manage the development team to achieve annual and long-term fundraising goals.
- Cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, and community partners.
- Oversee the planning and execution of major fundraising events and campaigns.
- Identify and pursue grant opportunities, ensuring timely submission and compliance with grant requirements.
- Manage the membership program, including retention, acquisition, and engagement strategies.
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop impactful donor communication materials; collaborate with the production and content teams to create fundraising campaigns for broadcast and provide support for initiatives
- Provide regular reports and updates on fundraising progress to the President & CEO and Board of Directors.
- Represent PBS Western Reserve at community events and meetings to enhance visibility and build connections.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, communications, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in development, fundraising, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, and grants.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of fundraising software and CRM systems.
- Knowledge of public media fundraising practices, trends and ecosystem.
- Passion for public broadcasting and PBS Western Reserve’s mission.
