PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE
The Lifeguard ensures the safety of all PCC members and guests both in the water and on the pool deck.
PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
This position interacts regularly with On Deck Supervisors, the Aquatics Coordinator, the Aquatics Program Manager, fellow Lifeguards, and other Community Center staff. Lifeguards also engage with PCC members, guests, and families to foster a safe and welcoming aquatic environment.
WORKWEEK
- Commit to working 7 out of the 9 weeks of summer and attend all required training meetings throughout the summer, including weekly in-service training.
- Work two summer holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day) and one of the following event dates: June 21st or July 26th.
- Participate in mandatory bonfires on June 8th, June 30th, and August 3rd.
- Hours and shifts vary, Weekly hours range: 6-15 hours.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be available to work as scheduled and take full responsibility for finding a substitute if unable to work. Be on time for shifts and when returning from breaks.
- Proactively prevent incidents by anticipating potential safety hazards including maintaining a clean, neat, and safe pool deck at all times.
- Know and be prepared to implement the facility’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Escalate concerns to the On Deck Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator, or Aquatics Program Manager as necessary.
- Work collaboratively with all aquatics and Center staff to provide exceptional service to members and guests while enhancing the aquatics program and facility.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.
- Must be at least 15 years old with strong swimming skills.
- Prior lifeguard experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be in the water and sun for extended periods.
- Must be able to perform all American Red Cross Lifeguard rescue skills, including but not limited to diving up to 12 feet, treading water for extended periods, CPR, rescue breathing, in-water spinal backboarding, and using an AED.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds frequently.
- DOJ background clearance required.
- Must adhere to and model PCC’s Safe Church policies.
