Job Overview : The Senior Purchasing Manager oversees the company’s procurement strategy, managing the sourcing, purchasing, and inventory processes to ensure product availability while controlling costs. The Director of Purchasing will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Operations, and Finance, to align purchasing activities with business objectives, drive efficiencies, and mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and implement the company’s sourcing strategy to ensure cost-effective procurement and high-quality product availability.
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with key suppliers to secure the best pricing, terms, and lead times.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers, focusing on long-term partnerships that support the company’s strategic goals.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to delivery, quality, or other service factors.
- Oversee inventory management practices to optimize stock levels based on demand forecasts, minimizing both stock outs and excess inventory.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Finance to forecast demand, adjust purchasing plans, and maintain inventory aligned with sales objectives.
- Implement and monitor Just-in-Time (JIT) or other inventory strategies to manage working capital and storage costs effectively.
- Utilize analytics and market research to anticipate shifts in demand and manage supply chain disruptions.
- Develop and manage the annual purchasing budget, focusing on cost containment, budget compliance, and expense tracking.
- Analyze purchasing data to identify cost-reduction opportunities through sourcing, contract negotiations, or process improvements.
- Monitor product pricing trends and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly to protect against market volatility.
- Drive cost-saving initiatives, working closely with suppliers and internal departments to achieve financial objectives.
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with supply chain disruptions, such as geopolitical risks, environmental events, and supplier performance issues.
- Ensure purchasing practices comply with relevant laws, industry standards, and internal policies, including environmental and social responsibility initiatives.
- Conduct supplier audits and implement a robust vendor qualification process to maintain a reliable supplier base.
- Partner with Sales to align purchasing activities with market demands, supporting the company’s revenue goals and service levels.
- Work with Operations and Logistics to ensure timely product delivery, optimal storage, and efficient distribution.
- Coordinate with Finance to provide accurate budgeting, cost forecasting, and inventory reporting.
