The Peace Center is a major, nonprofit performing arts center serving a growing and sophisticated audience in Greenville, South Carolina. It is the dominant performing arts center in the state and region. Built on a six-acre campus with an aesthetic mix of new architecture and historic buildings, the campus is at the hub of Greenville’s nationally recognized downtown.
The Peace Center venues include the 2,115-seat Peace Concert Hall, the 400-seat Gunter Theatre, the 1,400-capacity outdoor Peace Pavilion, Genevieve’s Lounge, and the Huguenot Mill which includes two event spaces : the Ramsaur Studio and the Huguenot Loft. Opening in 2025 will be two additional music venues : the 250-seat Mockingbird (a listening room), and the 1,150-capacity Coach Factory (a flat floor club).
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Production, the Audio Technician oversees the audio department for all incoming productions and maintenance activities at Peace Center venues. Working in a safe and consistent manner, the ideal candidate will be an organized leader who works well with local and touring crews.
This position assumes a leadership role for show and work calls and provides input on the shape and direction of the production department. Technicians are expected to perform tasks in other areas, working across departments as necessary; however, it is understood that cross-departmental work will not interfere with the safe and professional execution of primary responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Include, but are not limited to)
- Lead the audio department and associated crew to ensure the smooth operation of load-in, run, and load-out of all shows. Manage and operate equipment for live audio reinforcement for orchestra and amplified events including Broadway, concerts, and lectures, in addition to a comprehensive understanding of the use and operation of Dante, Yamaha Rivage PM5, Yamaha CL5, and Allen & Heath Avantis, is required. Mix performances as needed.
- As assigned by Production Management, manage and complete projects including the review of show riders, stage plots, input lists, crew calls, and various other reports and correspondence. Advance audio requirements and communicate production needs with the Peace Center production team and touring personnel.
- Manage performance communications, headsets, backstage program feeds, and pre-show announcements.
- Manage and maintain the audio equipment inventory including but not limited to microphones, speakers, consoles, cables, accessories, shop supplies, and tools. Always maintain a safe and orderly working environment.
- Lead collaborative efforts for special and capital projects, including the research, purchasing, construction, and installation of said projects.
- Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
- Adhere to and promote all OSHA, NFPA, and NEC regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all production elements.
- Guide, train, and mentor casual crew who are interested in taking on more responsibility within the field.
- Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.
