Job Title: Social Worker – School-Based Support for Neurodivergent Students (K-5)
Overview:
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our school team and support neurodivergent students in grades K-5. In this role, you will be a vital part of a collaborative team focused on fostering the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of our students. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children who have diverse learning and behavioral needs, including autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental conditions. Your role will be to provide advocacy, support, and connect students and families with the resources they need to succeed both in and outside of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Assessments & Intervention: Conduct individual and group assessments to identify social, emotional, and behavioral needs, and develop personalized intervention plans to support student success.
- Crisis Intervention & Behavior Management: Provide immediate intervention and support to students during behavioral crises, using evidence-based strategies to de-escalate and address challenging behaviors, when on site, as needed.
- Resource Education & Support: Educate families and staff about available resources, including social services, mental health services, and community programs tailored to neurodivergent children.
- Collaboration with Educational Team: Work closely with teachers, school psychologists, and other staff members to implement individualized support plans, ensuring a holistic approach to student development.
- Counseling & Social Skills Development: Lead individual and small-group counseling sessions focused on social skills, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and self-advocacy for neurodivergent students.
- Advocacy for Student Needs: Advocate for students' social and emotional needs within the school environment, ensuring they receive the appropriate accommodations and support.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, assessments, and interventions in compliance with school policies and regulations.
- Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay current on best practices for working with neurodivergent students and evolving educational needs.
Qualifications:
- Education: A degree in Social Work (LCSW, MSW, or related field) is required.
- Experience: Previous experience working with neurodivergent children, including those with autism, ADHD, and other behavioral health needs, is preferred.
- Crisis Management Skills: Ability to respond effectively to challenging behaviors and crises, using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
- Cultural Competency: Experience working in diverse school environments and understanding the unique needs of neurodivergent children is highly valued.
- Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and other school-based professionals.
- Counseling & Support: Experience providing counseling services focused on social-emotional learning, behavioral health, and coping strategies for children in K-5th grade.
- Documentation Skills: Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records and reports in accordance with school policy and state regulations.
