Job Title : Project Scheduler

Location : Newark, NJ (Preferred commutable distance; remote candidates considered with East Coast hours)

Duration : 6 months (with possible extension 12 months )

Overview :

Our client is seeking a skilled Project Scheduler to support large IT projects for an Investor-Owned Utility client. This role is based in Newark, NJ, and while remote candidates will be considered, they must be willing to work East Coast hours. This position will be integral to the creation, maintenance, and analysis of schedules for projects and programs using Primavera P6 . The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all scheduling requirements are met, maintaining accurate and reliable data, and providing insightful reporting for management.

Responsibilities :

  • Partner with Project Managers to create, update, and maintain project / program schedules, including tasks, milestones, resources, and costs
  • Perform schedule analysis, track project dependencies, and manage resource loading in compliance with project governance
  • Lead or participate in schedule audits and provide forward-looking analysis to leadership
  • Interface with stakeholders at the project and program levels to adjust scheduling parameters as needed
  • Advise management on the optimal use of scheduling tools, templates, and reporting methods
  • Track and report on project progress, performance, and schedule health, identifying risks and proposing recovery actions
  • Collaborate with financial teams to align and forecast project financials based on actual cost and schedule performance
  • Communicate scheduling impacts to key milestones and critical path activities
  • Provide earned value support and perform critical path reviews to ensure quality and accuracy in schedule management
  • Attend project meetings, document action items, and ensure alignment with overall project goals

Required Skills and Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS, or related field, with 8 years of scheduling experience using Primavera P6. (Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.)
  • Proven understanding of Project Management and Project Management Office (PMO) processes
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while thriving in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with senior management
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and organizational skills, with attention to detail
  • Expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and strong data skills
  • Experience in capital project management and project controls , specifically related to scheduling
  • Proven problem-solving ability and critical thinking in complex scenarios
  • Preferred Skills :

  • Primavera P6 certification is desirable
  • PMI-SP and / or PMP certification is preferred
  • Additional Information :

  • The team typically works in the office 2 days per week .
  • Remote candidates must be open to working East Coast hours .
