What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber Splicer position at Peak Utility Services Group?
Splicer I is responsible for safely and timely splicing multiple projects on a timeline. It is important for Splicers to maintain all fiber optic facilities up to customer standards and take initiative in troubleshooting issues in the field. Upon completing a splice job, Splicers are responsible for reporting field notes, test results, and billing.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Ability to splice loose tube & ribbon cables with thorough knowledge in:
- Constructing, grounding, & sealing of various fiber cables & case types
- Proper lengths and storage mean for cabling in cases and customer facilities
- Maintaining the quality of fiber cases for future splice work & customer needs
- Arranging an environment such as a trailer, van, and table for splice work
- Fiber optic hand tools as well as fusion machines
- Optical testing with special equipment from customer rooms and wire centers for testing requirements and diagnostics
Understanding of:
- Job prints such as CAD and splicing schematics for various customers & project types
- Managing multiple splicing jobs with timelines and communicating updates to the telecom supervisor(s)
- Working with splicers for large cutovers and emergency work
- Ability to work in various conditions:
- Indoors, including but not limited to wire centers, com rooms, trailers, or vans
- Outdoors: in all seasons and weather conditions for underground and aerial facilities such as manholes, handholes, and poles
- May require long hours, night work, as well as temporary out-of-town assignments
- Requires driving, loading, and securing all equipment in a truck with a splice trailer or splice van
Knowledgeable in:
- Personal protection equipment such as hard hats, high viz, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection
- Traffic control & permitting for appropriate and safe access to job sites
- Permit scheduling and communication with inspectors as well as telecom supervisor(s)
- State, county, and Track’s safety practices
- Company vehicle policies, equipment inspections, & maintenance
Success Factors:
- Ability to read prints and familiar with RUS units and redlines
- Ability to work in underground (confined spaces), buried and aerial environments, sitting down or standing up in awkward positions for long periods of time
- Time management skills
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to travel within the state as required by business needs - approximately 20% of the time
- Must be able to successfully complete a driving record check, criminal background check and drug screen
- ES07J license if preferred and would need to be obtained within the first 120 days
Experience and Education:
- Approximately 2 years or more of fiber optic splicing
- High school diploma or equivalent desired
- Possession or ability to obtain a valid state of Idaho driver’s license is required within two weeks of employment
- Candidates must pass a criminal and motor vehicle records background check
- Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Bilingual Spanish / English is a plus
- Owning fiber optic hand tools is a plus
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
