The Role
The City Manager role is diverse, with responsibilities in site operations, customer service, marketing, staffing and mentorship. This is an independent role where you will be responsible for the delivery of Pedalheads programs within the region and ensuring that all safety and quality standards are being met.
Your Responsibilities
The City Manager will be based out of a home-office. You will also work collaboratively with others in the organization such as Operations, Marketing, Customer Care, Training and People & Culture.
In addition to sharing your ideas on how we can grow, learn and build in this role, you’ll also be:
Camp Operations
- Leads and supervises summer camp staff by providing mentorship and motivation on-site and supporting the Site Leadership teams at each location
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with camp leaders and instructors
- Supports Site Leadership with the resolution of employee or customer issues
- Ensures that camp procedures and safety standards are being followed and upheld
- Assists with the training of camp staff
- Ensure smooth operations of 6-7 locations including but not limited to Boston, Belmont, Newton, Cambridge, Lexington and Wellesley
Recruitment & Training
- Recruit, interview and hire the best Instructors, Supervisors and Site Managers
- Assist with Instructor and Site Leader training sessions
Promotions
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing Department to promote the program within local communities, at events, school presentations, etc.
- Build strong relationships with communities where our camps are located
Customer Service
- Always willing to go the extra mile to engage customers and provide excellent customer service
- Respond to customer complaints in a timely and professional manner, always aiming to provide an appropriate solution and ensure resolution
- Review customer surveys on a weekly basis and connect with all unsatisfied customers to rectify the problem and turn their experience into a positive one
What does success look like?
- By March of 2025, you will have completed the rebuild and organization of camp related equipment to the standard that it could delivered to a site the following day
- By March of 2025, you will have engaged with 15 schools or partners to generate awareness of Pedalheads as an employer of choice for summer jobs
- By March of 2025, you will have researched neighborhoods and secured 6-8 sites in the greater Boston area to execute Summer Bike Camps
- You will have created 5 strategic partnerships with local elementary schools or related care facilities to advertise our programming and collected 1,000 emails of interested families
Skills, Knowledge and Experience

- Must be able to meet the requirements for Director I or Director II certification by the department of Early Education and Care (ECC) within 3 months of hire

- Fun – understands the importance of team bonding and creates and open and social workspace
- A minimum of 2 years management experience at a supervisory level or above
- Organizing and instructing experience with children of all ages, preferably in a camp or sporting environment
- Strong communications skills (with both kids and adults)
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact and build strong relationships with individuals at all levels
- A mature and dynamic leader who is enthusiastic and who brings a positive energy
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel within area of responsibility
Assets
- An undergraduate degree in business, operations, management, or recreation
- Experience working in recreation, children’s programming, sport management, or hospitality
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now, scheduling, approving hours
- Experience delivering training sessions to youth (18-24)
- Experience in prospecting and/or sales
- Previous experience with camp management
Direct reports
- The City Manager, Boston is responsible for managing, seasonal site support and site leadership teams for their region.
Pay and Perks
This is a Full-Time year round position. The ideal start date is mid to late February. The successful candidate will be paid an annualized salary of $52,000 to $62,000, commensurate with experience, based on a 40-hour work week. This position is home based in Boston, Massachusetts.
