Position Overview: PDILA is seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary Physical Education (PE) Teacher for grades 2 through 5 for the 2025-2026 school year. The PE Teacher will play a vital role in promoting physical wellness, fostering teamwork, and developing students' motor skills. Under limited supervision, the PE Teacher will plan and present engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that inspire a lifelong commitment to health and fitness while integrating leadership principles.
Key Responsibilities:
· Instruction & Curriculum Development
- Plan and implement a comprehensive physical education program aligned with South Carolina state standards and the school's curriculum.
- Design and deliver lessons focused on physical fitness, motor skills, sportsmanship, and personal wellness.
- Incorporate a variety of activities that promote physical development, teamwork, and healthy living habits.
- Foster an understanding of the connection between physical and mental well-being.
· Classroom Environment & Student Engagement
- Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and structured environment that supports student participation and growth.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs and skill levels.
- Integrate Leader in Me principles into PE instruction Develop clear classroom routines and expectations to ensure student safety and engagement.
- Integrate Leader in Me principles into classroom culture and instruction and encourage leadership skills through physical activities.
- Develop reasonable classroom procedures and expectations, maintaining order in a fair and just manner.
· Student Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction
- Assess and document student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback to students and families.
- Maintain accurate records of student participation, performance, and physical fitness assessments.
- Identify and support students with varying physical abilities, providing differentiated instruction and accommodations as needed.
· Collaboration & Professional Development

Additional Duties
- May provide remedial assistance to individuals, small groups or entire classes of students as scheduled during or after regular school hours.
- Maintains a clean and orderly classroom.
- Performs related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid and current South Carolina teaching certificate in Physical Education or eligibility for certification.
- Strong knowledge of physical fitness, motor skill development, and wellness education.
- Strong understanding of child development and best practices in elementary education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of PDILA—as well as processes and procedures.
