Job Summary
A Demolition Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery like excavators, bulldozers, and loaders to demolish structures, clear debris, and prepare sites for new construction projects. This role requires a high level of skill and precision in maneuvering equipment in challenging demolition environments while adhering to strict safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Equipment: Skillfully operate various heavy machinery including excavators with demolition attachments, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and other specialized demolition equipment to demolish structures according to project plans.
- Site Preparation: Prepare demolition sites by removing utilities, debris, and hazardous materials as necessary.
- Controlled Demolition: Execute controlled demolition techniques, including selective dismantling, structural shoring, and controlled collapse procedures.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), following site safety procedures, and reporting any potential hazards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on assigned equipment, reporting any issues to supervisors promptly.
- Communication and Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with other demolition crew members, site supervisors, and other trades to coordinate demolition activities and ensure smooth project execution.
Skills
- Experience: Experience in Excavator operation and various demolition attachments.
- Work Environment: Outdoor work environment on construction sites, often in varying weather conditions. Exposure to noise, dust, and potential hazards associated with demolition work. May require working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Safety Awareness: Demonstrated commitment to safety practices and awareness of demolition hazards.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including extended periods of sitting in heavy machinery, climbing, and lifting.
- Technical Skills: Understanding of hydraulic systems, basic mechanical knowledge, and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with crew members and follow instructions from supervisors.
