SUMMARY
The ESG Compliance Specialist ensures the organization's global compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) regulations and sustainability initiatives. This role involves monitoring and reporting on regulatory requirements, assessing environmental impacts, and implementing ESG best practices to align with corporate sustainability goals. The ESG Compliance Specialist will collaborate with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to drive responsible manufacturing operations and maintain global compliance across all Pelican/Peli facilities. Additional responsibilities may include the augmentation of ESG practices for Peli Biothermal facilities in partnership with their existing teams.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Monitor and interpret ESG-related regulations, ensuring company adherence to required industry reporting standards
- Works closely with the legal department to operationalize compliance with applicable ESG laws and regulations, with a particular focus on EU directives and international frameworks, including CSRD and CBAM
- Develop and maintain ESG data collection and compliance programs in line with environmental, labor, and governance requirements
- Respond directly to customer requests for compliance verification and statements for Pelican products
- Implement EU CSRD reporting requirements and CBAM compliance measures across the organization
- Produce detailed reports on compliance adherence, regulatory developments, and internal processes, ensuring transparency and accuracy in ESG reporting
Data Analysis & Performance Monitoring
- Coordinate with a forum of experts, including private equity management and supporting consultants, to guide ESG project decisions and expectations.
- Maintain ESG metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess progress with regulatory requirements
- In partnership with functions, conduct ESG audits across the company's supply chain, products, and service solutions
- Analyze and visualize sustainability data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
Sustainability Program Implementation
- Execute a strategic roadmap of environmental and sustainable initiatives, ensuring alignment with global ESG standards and regulations
- Participate in and support philanthropic initiatives alongside the committee (*soon to be created)
- Assist in developing ESG policies, frameworks, and performance measurement mechanisms
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable practices into manufacturing operations
Environmental & Social Risk Assessment
- Monitor and analyze the impact of carbon pricing mechanisms and border adjustments on the company's operations and supply chain
- Coordinate with finance and operations teams to implement CBAM requirements and carbon emissions tracking
- Develop and maintain ESG risk assessment frameworks and mitigation strategies
Stakeholder Engagement & Training
- Present complex compliance matters to diverse stakeholders in clear, actionable terms
- Manage external stakeholder inquiries regarding ESG performance and compliance
- Champion sustainability efforts internally and educate employees on ESG initiatives and regulatory requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education & Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in ESG compliance, sustainability, or regulatory affairs in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated experience with EU ESG regulations, particularly CSRD and CBAM
Systems Knowledge:
- Proficiency in ESG reporting software and data management systems
- Knowledge of carbon accounting and emissions calculation methodologies
- Experience with ESG auditing and verification processes
Skills & Competencies:
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellence in report writing and data analysis
- Experience with sustainability management systems
- Strong project management skills
- Strong understanding of supply chain sustainability
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in sustainability reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, or similar)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Compensation & Benefits:
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. Base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The annual U.S. pay range for this position is listed below. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on your qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
