Job Objectives:

The overall purpose of this job is to provide college level instruction to students pursuing an Associate Degree in the culinary arts. Additionally, the successful candidate for this position must be qualified to serve the culinary arts discipline as a Baking instructor and support the institutions culinary arts certificate, and non-degree community courses that are or may be offered.

About the Business and Computer Technology Department

The mission of the Pellissippi State's Business and Computer Technology (BCT) Department is to meet the educational needs of present and future business, computer, hospitality, and paralegal professionals.

The BCT Department is committed to giving students both the classroom education and the hands-on experience they need to compete and excel in a wide variety of fields. And the department does an exceptional job of fulfilling that commitment: it enjoys an excellent reputation in the Knoxville area and has a long-term job placement rate of more than 90 percent.

Business and Computer Technology is made up of 30 faculty members, all of whom have their fingers on the pulse of ever-changing business and computer practices. Students benefit from constantly updated software and more than 50 computer labs across the Colleges five campuses.

Whether youre drawn to the applied field of computer technology or you prefer to share ideas at a corporate roundtable, Business and Computer Technology has developed a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree to suit your needs. Want to enter the workforce more quickly? The department has a growing list of one-year certificate programs. In fact, our offerings are continually modified to reflect the changes in the skills and knowledge graduates need to be successful in business and industry.

Already juggling a job or family? Accelerated cohorts have been created so that students can maintain their daytime responsibilities while earning an associates degree. A cohort allows students to enter and finish a course sequence together, with the benefit of the same supportive community.

The Knoxville Community

Culture and Diversity

Knoxville claims a wide range of forward thinking national and international talents. The scholarly influence on the Knoxville metropolitan area bred literary greats including James Agee, Cormac McCarthy, and Nikki Giovanni. Knoxville is home to one of the largest sculptures dedicated to an African American in the country. Located in Haley Heritage Square is a 13-foot high bronze statue of author and Pulitzer Prize winner Alex Haley who chose to spend the last several years of his life in Knoxville. Renowned artists Beauford Delaney and Joseph Delaney hailed from Knoxville. Musicians Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, the Everly Brothers, and RB Morris called Knoxville home during their careers. Womens suffragist Lizzie Crozier French was active in the ratification of the 19th amendment and was born and raised in Knoxville.

Essential Job Functions:

65% Teach college courses in the culinary arts and baking.

5% Provide academic advising to culinary arts students.

5% Order and track culinary program food, supplies and other items as required and maintain appropriate inventory(ies).

5% Develop curriculum in the culinary arts and produce appropriate culinary arts accreditation reports.

5% Serve the college and community as appropriate in a faculty member role.

5% Engage in on-going professional development activities especially those related to accreditation of the culinary arts program.

5% Work with approved local organizations and venues to assure that students engage in and lead real-world culinary events as part of their college coursework.

5% Other

Job Standards:

Bachelors degree in the teaching discipline (may include culinary arts, business, nutrition, food science, or others approved by the dean) or associate degree in culinary arts with demonstrated competencies in the baking discipline (If hired with an associate degree, completing an appropriate bachelors degree before end of spring semester of 2022 will be a condition of employment). Must be certified or certifiable as a cooking professional at the ACF Certified Sous Chef (CSC) level or higher: www.acfchefs.org/ACF/Certify/Levels/CSC/ACF/Certify/Levels/CSC/

A minimum of four years of work experience in the culinary arts industry is required.

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Previous experience teaching at a community college or in an ACF accredited culinary arts program is highly preferred.

Please note that the degree must be from an accredited institution.

Special Skills/Application of Knowledge:

Familiarity with ACF accreditation is expected. Previous experience working in an ACF accredited culinary arts program is highly preferred.

Complexity & Creativity:

This position requires significant analytical, technical and creative thinking. Although guided by substantial and readily available policies, procedures, standards and precedents, this position requires the ability to make decisions based on available information and act appropriately.

Physical Demands:

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, manipulate kitchen instruments with the hands, operate a variety of kitchen equipment, and generally be mobile 100% of the time while on and between campuses. The position requires the ability to lift bulk food products and equipment or supplies (which could include items weighing up to 50 pounds).
