What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Manufacturing Operations position at Pembroke & Co.?
The Plant Manager will be responsible for overseeing all plant operations and employees in a food production environment, specifically bakery items.
Work Schedule
A normal schedule will consist of 5 to 5 ½ days per week, from mid-afternoon to late evening (about 1:00pm – 10:00pm). Saturdays and holidays are required, and extra hours may be necessary to meet deadlines.
Most of the bakery production occurs between 2:00pm – 11:00pm, 7 days a week, and gets delivered to the company's locations and local customers.
Responsibilities
- Oversees and operates all aspects of the plant, including Production, Shipping, Receiving, Maintenance, Sanitation, etc.
- Direct and delegate tasks to production supervisors and leadership, ensuring effectiveness and efficiency.
- Manage 60 employees, addressing employee conflicts and concerns as needed.
- Administer the recruiting, hiring, training, and scheduling of all plant employees.
- Manage performance of all plant employees, coaching and delivering performance improvement plans as needed. Handle employee terminations, as needed.
- Maintain extensive and thorough knowledge of product and process, answering questions and supporting training processes as needed.
- Ensure food safety regulations are followed and maintain all food safety documents.
- Monitor safety and sanitation, addressing issues regarding these, as needed.
- Ensure all plant maintenance is completed as necessary, including pest control, city & state licensing, trash removal, etc.
- Oversee production of all products, ensuring they meet brand specifications and product quality standards.
- Place orders and ensure the plant has the required stock.
- Ensure orders are prepared accurately and delivered in a timely manner.
- Confirm weights, times, and temperatures are recorded by employees.
- Identify equipment and repair needs, troubleshooting as needed.
- See to completion of production within deadlines, regardless of equipment failures, staffing shortages, etc.
- Complete various administrative duties such as answering the office phone, payroll, running proper reports, etc.
- Additional tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience in Food Manufacturing, Bakery Production, or a closely related field in a management capacity is required.
- High-level organizational skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task, and delegate in order to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in English is required. Any level of Somali is a plus.
- Intermediate computer skills are required. Experience running payroll, invoicing, creating key scan tags, and changing passwords is a plus.
- ServSafe Certification is required.
- Experience in an FDA environment is preferred.
- OSHA certification is preferred.
