We are seeking an Industrial Technician Trades III Plumber to support a project at the tunnels in Hampton Roads. This position will be responsible for all general plumbing and steam fitting services. This is to be accomplished on a routine basis as outlined in the responsibilities below.
This position offers a consistent, set schedule with a guaranteed 40 hours a week, paid training, and opportunities for overtime available.

Essential Functions
- Lead worker and trade specialist in plumbing/steam fitting in an industrial setting.
- Use of mechanical equipment to include pumps, boilers, water mains, fire hydrants, sump pumping systems, sewage ejectors and tunnel drain systems.
- Knowledge of design, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical apparatus and equipment, i.e., heating systems, water supply equipment, drainage equipment, and troubleshooting HVAC systems.
- Skilled in the use of the tools and instruments used to install and maintain industrial-type electrical/mechanical equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical failure.
- Review blueprints, building codes, and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
- Prepare written work cost estimates and negotiate contracts.
- Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
- Keep records of assignments and produce detailed work reports.
- Perform complex calculations and planning for special or very large jobs.
- Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to the required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Journeyman Level Plumber/Steamfitter.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank endorsement.
Experience/Skill Sets:
- 2-4 years of experience as a lead worker or trade specialist in plumbing/steam fitting in an industrial environment using mechanical equipment.
- Extensive background in diagnosing and repairing mechanical failures.
- Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment
- In-depth knowledge of Hampton Roads Interstate and local roadways.
- Computer literate; Windows-based application experience.
- Experience in radio and phone communications.
- Schedule flexibility.
- Full range of physical mobility, visual perception, and general good health.
- Industrial experience
- Required VDOT/Industry Training
