What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Teacher Assistant position at Penelope's Place Childcare?
Penelope's Place has an opening for an energetic and creative teaching assistant to work in a unique preschool/childcare setting in Southeast Eugene. We are a home based, multi-age Certified Family Childcare program with an emphasis on fostering social skills and self-management. Our motto is "Childcare that nurtures kindness, curiosity and confidence".
We accept children from 6 weeks to 12 years old, with client retention commonly lasting several years. We function like an extended family including many sibling groups in a small community caring for young children. Our families are highly-educated, compassionate, and community-oriented. Close social relationships with families are nurtured and encouraged. We many new families and three babies, so any new teacher must love working with infants and toddlers.
Duties for this position include supervising children, setting up art and science activities, food prep and serving, helping to maintain a safe and sanitary environment, supporting and teaching children a wide range of social skills, and some record keeping. Generally speaking, three staff members work at any given time, with each person attending to various needs and activities. Our staff support one another in adapting to changing needs while individual staff strengths are integrated into the program. We are kind and curious as we explore together.

Applicants must complete the following immediately upon hire:
- First Aid and CPR certification (90 days)
- Food Handler's license
- Recognizing and Reporting Abuse and Neglect (RRAN)
- Safe Sleep for Oregon’s Infants
- Introduction to Childcare Health and Safety (ICCHS)
- Prevention is Better Than Treatment (PBT)
- Serving Families Experiencing Homelessness
