What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Center Technician position at Penguin Computing?
Summary:
Penguin Computing Managed Services provides dedicated support for complex, integrated environments involving high-performance computing, cloud, and enterprise systems. Provide on-site post-sales technical support of hardware, systems, sub-systems and/or applications for customers and/or employees. Successful candidates must have excellent communication skills, a friendly demeanor, the ability to work with others, and to remain calm, focused, and organized.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Answer basic customer questions about installation, operation, system administration, networking configuration, customization, and usage of assigned products.
- Apply basic diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes and recommend solutions to correct common failures.
- Escalate complex problems to the Sr Onsite staff, Engineering staff or Field Engineering while coordinating customer communication.
- Provide updates to the problem request/management tracking system.
- Update customers on order status and RMA.
- Act as company liaison
- Periodic cabling work to include the installation of new cable runs as well as the maintenance, administration, labeling and troubleshooting of existing cable infrastructure
Preferred Qualifications
- Server Certification or A and Net Certification
- 2 Year Computer Science or Engineering Degree
Experience/Education:
- Is skillful in providing written and verbal communications to internal and external teams.
- Experience working with internal and/or external clients.
- Proactive, timely & thorough communications both internal & external of issues.
- Demonstrates critical thinking, good business sense & self awareness to know personal limitations and when/how to escalate potential risk.
- Able to identify defined standards, tools, and processes.
- Experience required in hardware technical support.
- Demonstrated use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Comfortable with installation and setup of a Linux server, including basic security, network services, package management, and basic shell navigation.
- Understands the importance of creating a welcoming environment that encourages different perspectives and new ideas, building a culture of curiosity, openness, and creativity across the organization and the wider community.
