Overview
Cree LED is looking for a self-motivated, hands-on technician to become a member of the R & D team responsible for the development, design, and fabrication of LED package solutions for customers.
*This position is for a 12-hour night shift. A shift differential is added on top of base pay.*
Responsibilities
- Support daily operations in the LED Packaging Lab
- Support packaging activities such as die attach, wire bonding and encapsulation
- Support characterization/measurement activities for packaged LEDs and materials
- Help maintain process and measurement equipment
- Assist with initial troubleshooting of process equipment
- Complete tasks and find new ones in a timely fashion
- Summarize and communicate findings accurately
- Document work using existing application and worksheets
- May be required to handle hazardous waste
Requirements
- AA in a technical field, or equivalent experience and HS diploma
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Able to handle materials used in LEDs including silicones, epoxies and phosphor
- Excellent manual dexterity to work with small parts under a microscope
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to follow verbal and written work instructions
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Positive, ‘whatever it takes’ attitude and demonstrated high level of dependability
- Flexible work schedule and the ability to work overtime on short notice
- Able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with physical sciences laboratory equipment and techniques
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude/troubleshooting ability
Location
This role requires on-site work at our Durham, N.C. campus. The company is unable to provide relocation assistance for this role.

Compensation & Benefits
The base pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in Durham, NC is $18.00 - $20.00 per hour before shift differentials; the pay ultimately offered within the expected range may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
