Job Summary
The Universe Administrator & Developer is responsible for ensuring high reliability, availability, and performance of the Universe system and related components. This role supports the company mission by providing a stable Universe system operating environment that allows daily operations to focus on providing the highest quality transportation services in the Northwest.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure reliable system availability and performance including incident and problem management
- Administer system objects and files to achieve optimum utilization
- Define and implement event triggers that will alert on potential system performance or integrity issues
- Perform system housekeeping, such as tuning, archiving, indexing, etc.
- Monitor usage, transaction volumes, response times, concurrency levels, etc.
- Work with support team to facilitate root cause analysis and timely resolution of system issues
- Recommend new features or changes to functionality based on performance logs, incident resolution or user feedback
- Design, develop, test and install software solutions that meet defined requirements
- Participate in cross functional projects and assist team to ensure projects are completed on-time and in-scope
- Will perform other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Education:
- 5 years of professional software development experience.
- Bachelors in Computer Science, related technical discipline or equivalent work experience.
- Prior transportation experience is preferred, LTL trucking very nice to have.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency developing in PICK MultiValue databases.
- Basic understanding of modern programming languages like Java, Python, etc.
- Basic understanding of building APIs and services using REST, SOAP, etc.
- Up to date knowledge of industry best practices and technology developments
- Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend conversational English.
- Excellent analytical ability, natural curiosity and problem-solving aptitude.
- Outstanding interpersonal and tailored communication skills.
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and efficiently switch between tasks with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Constant sitting at a desk with repetitive hand movements to operate a computer for long periods of time.
- Ability to bend below waist level to adjust operating hardware on occasion.
- Ability to travel to, and move about in, field locations on occasion.
- Ability to occasionally work non-traditional or extended hours based on business need.
