Overview
Responsible for working in partnership with PACE Center, and PASSi colleagues to enroll eligible low-income individuals into the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), with a focus on seniors. This position will be responsible for developing an outreach plan that will identify potentially eligible individuals; performing a preliminary eligibility screening; and assisting them in applying through Pennsylvania’s COMPASS system. The Benefits Specialist will help to connect community members to the full range of public benefits and resources they are eligible for.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Organize and conduct in-language outreach to explain SNAP benefits and eligibility to seniors and other potentially eligible individuals. Outreach to include events at PASSi, events at community partners, individuals’ homes, senior and community centers, churches, libraries, retail locations, etc.
- Provide in-language consultations on SNAP and other benefits programs, with assistance of additional interpretation from other PASSi staff as necessary.
- Prepare and submit electronic applications for SNAP and other benefits on behalf of eligible individuals, including collecting any required information and documents, or helping clients to collect them.
- Provide follow up with clients and appropriate agencies regarding the status of applications and any necessary next steps.
- Maintain accurate records of all clients submitting applications, including intake forms for new clients, and progress notes and service reports for existing clients.
- Attend all necessary trainings or meetings as required.
- Other related duties as necessary.
Qualifications
- U.S. College Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred
- Two or more years of outreach experience in the local community preferred
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
- Proficient in Microsoft Works (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Relationships with churches, community agencies, or local businesses preferred
- Complete all required trainings and screenings within month after hire
- Able to provide proof of ability to work legally in United States
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
