Position Summary:

The Network Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of the district's network infrastructure, including virtualization environments, cloud services such as Microsoft 365, desktop/server management, and phone systems. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of all network systems, enabling effective teaching and learning across the district. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to providing exceptional support to faculty, staff, and students.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Network Infrastructure Management:
    • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPNs.
    • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot network issues, ensuring optimal uptime and reliability.
    • Design and implement network upgrades and expansions to meet the district's evolving needs.
    • Maintain accurate network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and inventory.
  • Network Security:
    • Implement and enforce network security policies and procedures to protect district data and systems.
    • Monitor network security alerts and respond to security incidents.
    • Perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
    • Maintain and update firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and antivirus software.
    • Manage and filter web content.
  • User Support:
    • Provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students regarding network connectivity, cloud services, operating systems, software, phone systems, and related issues.
    • Respond to help desk tickets and resolve network, cloud, desktop/server, and phone system-related problems in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Educate users on network best practices, security awareness, cloud service usage, operating system/software usage, and phone system usage.
  • Wireless Network Management:
    • Design, implement, and maintain a robust and reliable wireless network across all district facilities.
    • Monitor wireless network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
    • Manage wireless access control and security.
  • Virtualization Management:
    • Configure and manage virtual environments using platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or similar.
    • Create, deploy, and maintain virtual machines.
    • Monitor virtual server performance and resource utilization.
    • Troubleshoot virtual environment related issues.
    • Implement and maintain virtual environment backups and disaster recovery plans.
  • Data Backup and Recovery:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive data backup and recovery strategy.
    • Perform regular backups of critical data and systems.
    • Test and verify the integrity of backups.
    • Restore data and systems in the event of a failure or disaster.
    • Maintain offsite backups.
    • Implement and manage email archiving solutions for compliance and data retention.
  • Microsoft 365 Management:
    • Configure and manage the Microsoft 365 platform, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Teams.
    • Manage Microsoft 365 user accounts, licenses, and permissions.
    • Implement and enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) policies.
    • Manage and troubleshoot email issues.
    • Ensure proper email filtering and security.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Microsoft 365 features and updates.
  • Desktop and Server Management:
    • Test, deploy, patch, and upgrade district-supported operating systems (Windows, macOS, ChromeOS) and software applications.
    • Develop and maintain standard operating systems and software images.
    • Manage software licensing and deployment.
    • Implement and manage endpoint security solutions.
    • Troubleshoot desktop and server hardware and software issues.
    • Manage user accounts and permissions on local systems.
    • Server Administration tasks related to network services such as DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
    • Configure and maintain login scripts and group policy.
  • Phone System Management:
    • Configure, test, and troubleshoot the district's phone system (VoIP or traditional).
    • Manage phone system extensions, voicemail, and call routing.
    • Maintain phone system hardware and software.
    • Work with phone system vendors for support and upgrades.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Work with vendors to procure network hardware, software, cloud services, and phone systems.
    • Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely delivery of services.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including CIPA, FERPA, and GDPR.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).  
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and VPNs.
  • Experience with network hardware and software.
  • Proficiency in network security principles and practices.
  • Experience with wireless network management and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Virtualization platforms.
  • Experience with data backup and recovery solutions, including email archiving.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Administration.
  • Experience with desktop and server operating systems and software deployment, including group policy and login script management.
  • Experience with phone system management (VoIP preferred).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  
  • Experience with firewall management and content filtering.
  • Experience with Active Directory.
  • Experience in a K-12 environment is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network , CCNA, CCNP, VCP, Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, VoIP-related certifications) are highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various environments, including server rooms, network closets, and phone equipment rooms.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Salary : $82,000
