What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Operator-Stamping position at Penn Engineering?
Summary
Under regular supervision of the Stamping Production Supervisor, attends to high speed stamping presses for repetitive production of a variety of stamped parts and components that meet required quality level. Ensures that the correct quality and quantity of parts are made in accordance with the production schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receives assignments from supervisor prior to each shift and accomplishes tasks in accordance with all documented procedures and instructions.
- Monitors automated metal stamping equipment.
- Maintains continuous production flow by changing reels of completed parts when necessary.
- Adequately performs inspections with common measuring instruments and test equipment.
- Reads basic part prints.
- Collects SPC data using micrometers and verniers.
- tops process for corrective action with equipment/die adjustments when necessary.
- Follows all departmental procedures to ensure quality requirements are met.
- Responsible for proper packaging quantities, log sheets (data), materials, reel making, tumbling parts, and making labels. Keeps assigned work area clean and orderly at all times.
- Works continuously to improve skills and capabilities in operations. Effectively and actively participates in-group problem solving and improvement activities.
- May be required to work overtime as business conditions dictate.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualification Requirements
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months manufacturing experience and/or training.
Language Skills
Ability to comprehend and comply with written and verbal procedures, instructions and assignments. Ability to deal with situations involving several variables in standard manufacturing conditions. Ability to actively participate in-group problem solving activities.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to correctly perform calculations using basic mathematical skills.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems normally encountered in the manufacturing environment.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, loud noise levels and vibration.
Employee is required to follow all safety rules and procedures including, but not limited to, using required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). PPE for this position includes safety glasses, hearing protection and hard toed shoes. Work gloves (general cloth or nitrile chemical resistant gloves) must be used when necessary.
