Purpose:

Are you a passionate educational leader with proven success in growing and inspiring students and staff? Are you a driver of school innovation? Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship, Pittsburgh's FIRST entrepreneurship-focused charter school, seeks a K - 8 School Principal to oversee and develop our positive School culture to promote student growth, staff development, and operational effectiveness. The Principal establishes and communicates a clear vision of the school’s culture to students, families, and staff. The Principal develops systems and processes to ensure the smooth operation of the school, and links curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data to ensure student success and teacher effectiveness based on best practices in pedagogy. The Principal engages with stakeholders and intentionally builds partnerships and relationships to enhance the student experience and School’s position within the community. The Principal is guided by strong principles of integrity, fairness, and ethics.

Job Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education required from an accredited institution
  • PA Administration/Principal Certification
  • Pennsylvania Teaching License, Elementary Education
  • Five (5) years as a Principal or Assistant Principal in a school environment

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Conduct teacher observations using the Danielson Framework
  • Empower staff to assume responsibility for the school’s positive culture and student achievement
  • Lead instructional staff in selecting and implementing improvement strategies and monitoring their own progress toward achieving the mission, vision, and goals of the School
  • Provide instructional leadership by training, coaching, developing, and evaluating teachers and staff through observation, modeling, and analyzing data
  • Ensure that onboarding and induction efforts support the success of new instructional staff
  • Follow, understand, and communicate federal, state, and local mandates as opportunities for improvement for the School
  • Supervise, discipline, and evaluate teachers and staff
  • Monitor and report on teacher and staff performance
  • Develop and enforce systems of accountability for teachers and staff
  • Plan short and long-term professional development activities to address identified needs based upon observation data; monitor performance following professional development to ensure the application of lessons learned
  • Set goals for staff performance in alignment with the School’s strategic plan
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching
  • Identify and implement formal and informal staff rewards
  • Create opportunities for teachers to engage in collaborative planning time
  • Empower staff to engage one-another in relationship building activities designed to mitigate conflict and maintain a positive school climate
  • Collaborate with Administration and the School-based leadership team to ensure fidelity and compliance in each department
  • Challenge negative attitudes and practices to ensure that all students, particularly those who are traditionally underserved, are respected and honored in the School environment

Family, Student, and Community Engagement

  • Proactively develop relationships with families and the community to support student success and the School’s reputation as an institution of excellence
  • Utilize recognition, reward, and advancement as a way to promote the accomplishments of the School to stakeholders and the wider community
  • Integrate School and community resources to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of School operations
  • Oversee student discipline processes including mediations and bullying allegations
  • Participate in conferences concerning student and school issues with parents
  • Ensure compliance in accordance to special education laws and regulations by attending special education meetings when necessary
  • Complete all state reporting and compliance requirements in a timely manner
  • Maintain a safe, positive school culture throughout the school by overseeing the implementation and the fidelity of the School’s Positive Behavioral Intervention System (PBIS)
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with parents to resolve conflict

Academics

  • Design, lead, and implement professional development that provides educators with understanding of instructional best practices
  • Create a system for students to monitor their own academic performance, and motivate students to exceed expectations
  • Design, initiate, and implement collaborative processes to collect and analyze academic data for the periodic review and revision of the School’s mission, vision, and strategic goals
  • Develop and sustain a school wide system to monitor and evaluate progress toward student achievement and growth outcomes and school wide goals
  • Drive initiatives to ensure that students are high school, college, and career ready
  • Use data and feedback to assess and evaluate the success of program decisions
  • Present data on school performance to Board of Trustees and internal/external stakeholders
  • Review and implement school policies and protocols
  • Ensure alignment with the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s curriculum and assessment system.
  • Lead the educational performance of the school through a clear vision, strategic plan, and academic framework that continues to advance the school’s comprehensive plan.
  • Maintain and enhance the school’s curriculum, instruction, and school improvement initiatives
  • Reduce the variability in curricula, instruction, and assessment and implement a vertically aligned curriculum and assessment system, which includes the management of PA Common Core Standards, and consistent delivery of instruction aligned with key standards
  • Oversee the allocation of materials and staff resources for academic departments, ensure their use for the purposes intended, and enforce appropriate accountability for disbursements and expenditures
  • Ensure compliance with State regulations and policies in monitoring, assessment, and reporting for all academic programs

Meetings & Professional Development

  • Proactively recommend decisions regarding hiring, transfers, retention, and dismissal
  • Assist in the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of the School’s instructional staff
  • Represent the school at conferences and trainings by modeling the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Lead staff and committee meetings
  • Contact parents regarding concerns and schedule quarterly meetings with parents regarding student retention
  • Participate in Student Assistance Program (SAP) to identify issues such as substance abuse and mental health issues which may pose barriers to student success.
  • Participate in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to identify and assist students who are struggling academically, or with behaviors within the least restrictive environment.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional growth through participation in professional learning communities, networking, and professional development opportunities
  • Attend all school-sponsored events and board meetings.
  • Attend community events and meetings to create and maintain community partnerships

Working Conditions:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is primarily sedentary in nature, exerting up to 10 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move throughout the building, sit, and navigate stairs in order to access classrooms and meeting areas throughout the school. Occasionally reaches with hands and arms. Frequent handling and fingering. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must be able to talk and hear. Mental acuity required. Primarily assigned to an office environment that is climate and noise controlled with adequate lighting, using standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers.

Pay: $97,527.39 - $110,878.00 per year
