Compliance Business Intelligence Analyst
The Penn Medicine Office of Billing Compliance serves an important role by protecting the organization from billing compliance risk through a strong education, audit and consultative program.
Team members primarily work remotely with occasional in-office team meetings and on-site meetings at Penn Medicine locations.
Job Summary:
- The Compliance Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA) supports the Office of Billing Compliance department's initiatives by building dashboards, reporting, and trusted analytics content. The BIA consults with the department's management and analysts to create data-driven analyses and insights using business intelligence tools such as PowerBI, SQL and EPIC that enhance decision-making.
- The BIA provides effective project management to clearly defines projects, develop project plans, and develop analytics to inform the department and guide prioritization using Microsoft365 tools.
- The BIA has excellent analytical capabilities paired with strong communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Independently determine the type and nature of analysis for the desired information or results, including data to be collected, analysis methods, presentation, format, and report structure.
- Consult with management and analysts to identify potential billing risk areas and utilize business intelligence tools such as PowerBI, SQL and EPIC, to create data-driven reports and analyses that inform decision-making.
- Continually seek, learn, and adopt new technologies and innovations to increase efficiencies.
- Manage department projects from initiation through completion, ensuring that goals are achieved.
- Assess processes, in collaboration with management and analysts, to identify, create and maintain solutions using productivity and organizational tools, such as Microsoft 365 TEAMS, SharePoint, and OneNote for optimization and efficiencies.
- Provide expertise and training to department staff on business intelligence and Microsoft 365 tools.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle, electronic medical record, and healthcare billing coding and regulatory concepts and guidelines.
- Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
- Education Specialization: Health Care Management, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics or related field
- 5 years of related experience (information services, revenue cycle, health information management, health care operations, project management, business analytics) or other pertinent background (Required)
- 3 years of professional experience in business analytic tools such as Power BI or Tableau, SQL, or with EPIC analytical tools (Preferred)
- 3 years of professional experience in Microsoft 365 tools such as TEAMS, Planner, OneDrive, SharePoint, Lists, and/or OneNote (Preferred)
- 3 years of health care operations or revenue cycle experience (Preferred)
Skills & Abilities:
- Professional experience in business analytic tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or with EPIC analytical tools (Preferred)
- Professional experience in Microsoft 365 tools such as TEAMS, Planner, OneDrive, SharePoint, Lists, and/or OneNote (Preferred)
- Professional experience in process or project management
- Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle and/or healthcare operations
- Knowledge of healthcare coding and reimbursement concepts
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects/priorities successfully
- Demonstrated competencies in analytical skills
- Efficiency in processing of verbal information, either in written or spoken form
- Ability to exchange information with others clearly and concisely; to present ideas, facts and technical information.
- Ability to maintain relationships that facilitate task accomplishment; to cooperate and resolve conflicts; to recognize needs and be sensitive of others.
