Assistant Professor of Education

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as an assistant professor of education. We are seeking a colleague who envisions a career where teaching and practice are equally valued. The successful candidate will be someone who finds meaning from being in the classroom and providing high- quality, active learning experiences.

Responsibilities of the job include teaching undergraduate courses in the instruction of reading, language arts, and children's literature, and education-related electives and their area of expertise (typical teaching load is three courses per semester but may vary based on need). The successful candidate will also supervise preservice teachers in field placements. All faculty are expected to advise students, maintain an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, and provide service to the school, college, and University. Applicants must have classroom teaching experience in K-12 school settings. An earned doctoral degree in education or curriculum instruction with expertise in reading, language, and literacy or related field is required by the appointment start date.

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences has about 60 full-time faculty members, offers ten bachelor's degrees (Media and Communication; Creative Writing; Digital Media, Arts, and Technology; Elementary and Early Childhood Education; English; General Arts and Sciences; History; Political Science; and Psychology) and one master's degree (Clinical Psychology.) The school is also home to the languages and the arts. Technology and inter-library loan resources are excellent; internal funds are available for scholarly activity. The School supports a growing, all-campus interest in research that addresses issues of women's health or energy & sustainability.
