PennEngineering is seeking a motivated, excited, individual to be a part of the Field Application Engineering Team in Shelby Township, Michigan . As a Senior Field Application Engineer at PennEngineering, you'll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things.
We consider our Field Application Engineers a critical source of technical support serving as the liaison between the customer and their engineering department and will develop and coordinate the strategic plans for new product concepts and all associated product testing. You will be accountable for making recommendations to improve products, processes, and performance. This position may require the individual to specialize in multiple market segments throughout our successful portfolio such as Micro Products, Panel Fasteners, and additional PEM core product. This role requires 30% travel domestically.

WHAT YOU WILL DO :
Work with the Business Development Management Team to develop strong working relationships with engineering or technical teams for key accounts in relevant markets (as defined by Market Managers, local / global Sales Leaders, etc.).Identify and support opportunities for both standard and custom fastening solutions in customer applications, leading customer interactions from a technical perspective.Collaborate with global Applications and Manufacturing Engineering Teams to design new and unique fastening solutions, preparing and submitting redline 2D / 3D CAD for manufacturing feasibility reviews and ensuring all Customer Specific Requirements are captured in the design conception stage of the application.Submit design concepts to Pricing Team for quoting. Conduct review of received quotation to ensure the design meets all Customer Specific Requirements.Support design reviews with customers as required.Leverage knowledge of PennEngineering manufacturing capabilities to support sampling of parts to customer for trial builds. This includes sampling of standards parts, noting exceptions, or design, preparation and submission of 2D / 3D CAD to prototype shop of for CNC manufacturing.Support customer builds on-site as required.Conduct fastener performance testing in Shelby Technical Laboratory for customer applications.Review customer quality claims, submitting Non-Conformance Requests to relevant manufacturing sites Quality Engineering Team. Support follow through of quality claim until closure as required.Participate in trade shows, demonstrating the value of PennEngineering's existing and future technologies to customers.Serve as the "voice of the customer" for assigned accounts with our PEM, Atlas, and S.I. product lines, documenting and communicating customer feedback from the field to drive product and process innovation within the organization.Maintain a high level of technical competency for relevant fastener design, manufacturing, and assembly processes for relevant customer applications. This may include metal manufacturing processes and secondary operations such as heat treatment, plating, and other finishing processes. This may also include plastic manufacturing processes.Communicate new product and application trends with global New Product Development, Marketing and Sales Team members to drive global strategy.Exercise continuous improvement, tackling independent or team projects to improve existing processes and procedures to maximize team efficiency.Support, mentor and develop the East Region Field Applications Engineers in the absence of the Field Applications Engineering Manager.Performs his / her duties completely in a professional manner and with minimal supervision.LI-BS1
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR :
Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Material Science) required3 years of experience in a technical, customer-facing role in the Automotive industry (Applications Engineering, Project Engineering, Product Development, or equivalent)Ability to develop strong working relationships with customer technical teams (Engineering, Program Management, Technical Specialists, etc.)Experience working with Stellantis Engineering teams and understanding / knowledge of Stellantis vehicle lines (present / future), technologies, processes, and requirements preferredEffective communication and project management skills to collaborate with global, cross-functional teams on diverse projectsPassion for hands-on learning, exercising critical thinking and problem-solving skills to conduct fastener performance tests and trials in the Shelby Technical Lab for customer applicationsInnovative attitude and the ability to create, support, and implement processes / procedures to maximize the efficiency and output of the Field Applications Engineers and adjacent teamsStrong presentation skills for internal and external meetings as requiredCourteous and professional leader that will support the Field Applications Engineering ManagerProficient with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Creo preferred but not required)Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)Experience with Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) platforms (Salesforce preferred but not required)Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software (JDEdwards preferred but not required)Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally by air.
