Overview
The Director of Sales - Commercial will assume the primary responsibility of overseeing the Pennex strategic initiative to expand value-added sales within the commercial markets. This role requires exceptional leadership skills, the ability to envision and execute a strategic plan, and the capability to manage both the inside sales and outside commercial team sales. The Director of Sales will play a critical role in driving the growth of the business by effectively targeting and servicing commercial customers. This position will also be responsible for managing all existing commercial business and relationships with the goal of providing exceptional customer service and responsiveness.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive vision and sales strategy to expand value-added sales within the commercial markets.
- Identify and engage with commercial customers, fostering strong relationships to drive sales and secure new business opportunities.
- Leverage previous managerial experience to provide effective leadership and mentorship to the sales team, fostering their professional growth and development.
- Drive team, organization, and system development to enhance overall sales performance and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, finance, and operations, to align sales efforts with the overall business strategy.
- Utilize strong financial understanding to analyze sales data, monitor performance metrics, and make data-driven decisions to optimize overall business performance
- Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities within the commercial sector, providing insights and recommendations to enhance overall business
- Maintain a sales organization that can keep the plant fully loaded with an optimized business portfolio.
- Maintains customer relationship and act as the liaison between the customer and Pennex personnel in the development of the account. Assess current situation and identify key prospect customers to expand Pennex initiative
- Acts as the voice of the customer and interacts with internal Pennex departments to include Quality, Engineering, Production, Inside Sales, Accounting and Materials Management and Logistics in the execution of their duties
- Follow Sales Management directives and processes on sales reporting, lead management, and new business development.
- Assists in the quotation process. Coordinates the development and accuracy of estimates and quotes with the appropriate departments to include Engineering, Production, Quality, Inside Sales, Materials Management and Logistics.
- Assist in determining customer-initiated engineering requests and reviews the impact on cost on applicable departments and/or cost centers.
- Verifies pricing and all order details at initial order acceptance, entry and through subsequent engineering revisions.
- Projects market/customer sales growth and profitability, including conducting analysis of existing and emerging markets to identify new sales opportunities.
- Assist in the development of goals and objectives and personal development plan; monitors, measures and communicates progress.
- Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
- Other duties and responsibilities as requested/required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or equivalent experience.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 8 to 10 years of related experience in sales (aluminum extrusion preferred.)
- Operational background experience is preferred.
- Background and knowledge of aluminum extrusion fabrication processes, equipment and customers is preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Previous management role experience with a proven track record of team, organization, and system development.
- Proven track record of achieving business growth with existing and new customers.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the aluminum industry is a plus.
- Demonstrated engagement and success within the commercial industry.
- Solid financial acumen with the ability to analyze sales data, understand profit margins, and make informed business decisions.
- Negotiation experience.
- Proficient in marketing principles and experience in developing and implementing effective sales strategies.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a sales team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective relationship-building with commercial customers and internal stakeholders.
- Proactive and results-oriented mindset, with a focus on driving business growth and exceeding sales targets.
- Flexibility to travel as required to meet with commercial customers and attend industry events.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiations skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience building and maintaining strong working relationships with distributors, customers, and internal support staff.
- Demonstrated sales success in regional markets.
- Able to work independently, have a high energy level, and competitiveness.
- Proficiency in computer operations.
- A desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn and apply new skills.
- Attentive to details and follows through on assigned tasks and commitments.
- Flexible and driven to meet tight deadlines, handle multiple projects and prioritize them appropriately.
- Strong organizational skills, and ability to effectively disseminate information in a clear and concise manner.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
