Position Objective:
A responsible Custodian to keep facilities clean, sanitary, orderly, and in good condition in accordance with standards and agreements. Must responsibly handle confidentiality, security and safety protocols associated with their work environment.

- Perform general, routine custodial duties, to include emptying trash receptacles; cleaning, sanitizing and supplying restrooms, locker rooms, and break rooms; washing windows and glass; cleaning elevators, stairways and entrances.
- Maintain floors in a clean state by sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing and waxing. Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors.
- Run floor cleaning machines such as auto scrubber, carpet extractors, buffers, etc. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of janitorial equipment.
- Ensure equipment and lights are switched off, and securing buildings after hours by locking doors and closing windows.
- Mix cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
- Report needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting service requests and checking janitorial supply levels.
- Light maintenance of any item, which can be fixed, replaced and maintained by a screwdriver, hammer, pliers and crescent wrench, etc. These functions relate to furniture, equipment, doors, receptacles, dispensers and toilet lids, squeegees, hoses, batteries, light bulbs and other equipment used by custodians during the usual course of duties
- Maintain a neat and orderly janitors’ closet; ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
- Assist in on-the-position training of new staff on routine procedures.
- Assist in examining buildings for safety hazards; reports deficiencies to Team Leader or Custodial Supervisor.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
- Maintain compliance with all County policies and procedures
- High school diploma or GED is preferred
- One-year experience preferred but not required in cleaning methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work.
- Valid driver’s license
- Preferred experience operating floor maintenance equipment, including buffers, auto scrubbers, and extractors.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential position functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Upper body strength is a requisite to lift, transport, position, put, install, remove a maximum of 50 lbs. unassisted; and lift, transport, position, put, install, remove a maximum of 80 lbs. with assistance.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively on telephone, in-person and in writing.
Working Environment:
- Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Work environment is informal, team-oriented, having both routine and variable tasks with variable pace and pressure.
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments; travel from site to site; exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Overtime hours may be required for special projects or emergency situations.
