Job Summary
HRI, Inc., a leader in heavy civil construction since 1947, has an opening for an experienced and energetic Pipe Superintendent . The position is within our Utilities Construction division, where we are a leader in the water / wastewater treatment plant construction in addition to our leading position with large, municipal pipe projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and managing multiple crews in various construction projects. Travel is sometimes required for this position.
The successful candidate should be capable, among other responsibilities, with the installation of all underground pipe and process pipe. The selected individual will ensure the crews operates within HRI’s safety standards at all times. They will plan and assign work, track / account for labor hours and productivity, and supervise daily activities of crew members.
Main Responsibilities
Complete tasks as directed by supervisor in a timely manner
Ability to work and assist others to work in a safe manner within the guidelines of the company’s policies
Locate, avoid, and protect existing underground utilities
Read and interpret grade instruments (tape measures, grade rods, levels, and lasers)
Apply basic knowledge of soil types, trenching, and shoring per OSHA regulations
Ability to work with trench boxes, deep excavations, and in confined spaces
Supervise work activities of employees in their daily activities
Ensure crews have tools, materials, and instruction to complete tasks
Preplan schedule, manpower, and equipment needs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis with the Project Management Team
Understanding of water and sewer line installation
Work with ground personnel in the excavation and installation process of laying pipe online and grade

Education
Previous experience and knowledge with utilities, pipe and / or related field preferred
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Valid drivers’ license with the ability to maintain a clean driving history
Skills
Knowledge of utilities planning and scheduling
Ability to calculate quantities for materials and supplies
Ability to effectively supervise small to midsized groups
Effective communication and organizational skills
Ability to travel
Preferred Certifications & Training First Aid / CPR OSHA 10 and / or 30 hour training
Effective communication skills (both listening and verbal)
Good work ethic, professional, and positive attitude
Physical Requirements
Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE)
Required to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
Required to use hands to move and manipulate objects
Required to communicate (talk and hear)
Required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Standing / working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
Exposure to loud noise
Exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles
Required to work varying hours, overtime as required
Compliance with company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
