Rape Response Services, a subsidiary of Penquis, with offices in Bangor and Dover-Foxcroft, seeks a dynamic individual to work as a full-time, Sexual Assault Advocate. As the Sexual Assault Advocate you provide direct services to those affected by sexual violence and stalking with a focus on providing support throughout the communities in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.
This full-time position is based at our Bangor office. Candidates must be able to travel throughout Penobscot and Piscataquis counties to provide services.
Location: Bangor, Maine
Sexual Assault Advocate Responsibilities:
- You are responsible for offering hope, support, and advocacy to victims and people affected by sexual assault and stalking, to provide education about sexual violence and to promote prevention.
- Building and maintaining relationships with other service providers and systems to create referral networks and improve support for survivors.
- Provide training to professionals, lead multidisciplinary teams and community awareness events throughout both counties.
- Develop relationships with and provide and/or coordinate ongoing training and engagement opportunities for community partners including multidisciplinary team members (MDT), law enforcement and medical personnel.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, including nights and weekends, supporting the provision of 24/7 services to victims/survivors.
Sexual Assault Advocate Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services or a related field and at least one year of specifically related experience are preferred.
- Personal philosophy in keeping with the program’s goals and objectives and an understanding of clinical, legal and/or political issues related to sexual assault.
- Work or volunteer experience providing services and support to victims of violence are encouraged to apply.
- Must have a valid Maine driver’s license and access to reliable, insured transportation and be willing to travel throughout Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.
- Flexible work hours and on-call shifts, including evening and weekend rotations, are a requirement.
- Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.

The starting rate of pay for the Sexual Assault Advocate position is $20.43 per hour and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience.
