What are the responsibilities and job description for the Design Engineer - NASCAR position at Penske Racing South?
The Design Engineer designs and develops components and systems as directed by the Design Engineering Manager. The design engineer should have the ability to work independently or as a part of a group.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop equipment for race pit support and pit practice
- Create CAD models, at the component and assembly level, in Siemens NX and Teamcenter
- Revise existing designs to improve performance and/or meet new requirements
- Perform engineering analysis as required, including FEA supported by classical calculations
- Identify and source purchased components for integration with in-house designs
- Create detailed production drawings for use by internal and external manufacturing resources
- Release drawings and supporting documentation through Team Penske processes
- Document machining, fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures
- Design fixturing and/or jig components as required
- Reverse engineering of existing components
- Develop and complete test plans to validate performance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or related field of study
- 3D CAD modeling experience, including creation of detailed drawings, preferably with Siemens NX suite of software
- One year or more of experience in an engineering or production environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Understanding of modern low-volume production methods, including machining, rapid prototyping, light fabrication, laser cutting, and waterjet
- Basic skills in computer networking and management of contemporary IT equipment (network switches, multiple monitors, large displays, power systems)
