Description

The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for the acquisition, servicing and underwriting of commercial loans. This position requires strong underwriting skills and sales ability. Conduct reasonably complex credit analysis activities including gathering, analyzing and interpreting all types of credit and financial information for existing customers in support of efforts to minimize risk and potential loss. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to acquire new and maintain existing business, work within a team environment and provide superior quality service.

Duties and responsibilities:

A. Provides excellent internal and external customer service; representing the Bank in a courteous, friendly and professional manner. 

B. Actively solicits new business from prospects and existing customers, which includes deposit relationships and other bank services offered.

C. Appropriately sell and cross-sell bank services in the branch and local community by developing rapport with customers, and by being involved in community and business development activities.  

D. Meet annual goals and objectives set by senior management for loan quality plus loan and deposit growth.

E. Underwrites commercial loans and recommends approval to the next level where appropriate.

F. Ensures timely and thorough monitoring of all credits through periodic reviews, continual analysis, and proper documentation. 

G. The ability to remedy deficiencies when appropriate. 

H. Maintain knowledge of compliance requirements to ensure bank compliance in your areas of responsibility and directly responsible for regulatory compliance on each loan within portfolio.

I. Attends meetings as requested.

J. Perform other duties as assigned.


Performance Standards:

A. Meet or exceed set annual goals in loan and deposit growth by aggressively cross-selling bank products and services.

B. Review loan files for cross-sell opportunities, primarily deposit items, either directly selling or referring the customer to the appropriate person for follow-up.

C. Achieve annual goal set for loan portfolio growth and client retention within the loan portfolio on an ongoing basis.

D. Achieve annual goal set for percentage of past due and non-performing loans compared to the total loans outstanding. 

E. Achieve annual goal set for total classified and special mention loans. 

F. Maintain a minimum of customer complaints concerning excessive processing time and missed closing dates.

G. Provide prompt loan approvals to all loan customers with minimal errors in loan documents.

H. Process CR-115 loan request the same day received or as soon as complete information is received.

I. Review all outstanding loans for documentation and compliance and assist with the verification of the accuracy of initial computer set up.

J. Meet the requirements of the Bank, State of Oregon and FDIC for loan quality and documentation. 

K. Ensure all loan files are audited after closing for compliance with original terms of approval and for compliance with approved procedures.

L. Maintain 100% compliance with all equal lending requirements and to meet all bank compliance reporting requirements.

M. Mange the production and processing functions of the loans under the portfolio.

N. Encourages teamwork with other bank departments to accomplish bank goals.

A. Strong credit underwriting skills, knowledgeable about regulatory and compliance laws and procedures.

B. Proven sale/business development skills as well as assertive and persuasive communication style.

C. Familiarity with deposit and lending products and other bank services.

D. Exceptional communication (written and oral) and organizational skills.

E. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to develop rapport with people. 

F. Ability to work within and foster a team environment.

G. Ability to develop self-motivated production targets/goals that support the Bank’s growth goals. 

H. Ability to manage multiple tasks and achieve result according to company priority.

I. Ability to look and project a professional image. 

J. Demonstrates attention to detail.

K. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

L. Effective sales techniques relating to Bank products/services.


Education, training and experience:

A. Bachelor’s degree in finance, business or economics or related field preferred or an equivalent combination of minimum two years work experience equivalent in commercial lending. 

B. Proven advanced sales skills and a demonstrated ability in developing customer relationships.

C. Excellent telephone skills and oral and written communication skills.

D. Computer knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and other bank equipment.

E. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop rapport with people.

F. Mathematical and numerical ability and detail orientation is essential.
