Staff Accountant

FLSA Classification : Exempt

Reports to : Chief Financial Officer

Job Summary / Objective :

The Staff Accountant will focus on the day-to-day accounting activities of Peoples Community Health Clinic, Inc. (PCHC) Responsibilities will include accounts payable, journal entry processing, account reconciliation and financial statement preparation and review. Performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission of Peoples Community Health Clinic, Inc.

Protected Health Information Requirements / Access :

  • This position will require the use or disclosure of protected health Information.
  • This position will use the Payment and Health Care Operations classes of protected health information.
  • Restrictions on the protected health information for this position will follow the Privacy Policies of Peoples Community Health Clinic, Inc.
  • Use or disclosure of protected health information not routinely available to this position will follow procedures assessed by or directed by management.

Essential Functions :

  • Accounts payable : Process accounts payable invoices ensuring proper billing and timely payment.
  • Financial Reporting : Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual statements in accordance with GAAP. Assist in the preparation of budget reports and variance analysis.
  • General Ledger Maintenance : Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Account Reconciliation : Perform daily / monthly reconciliations of cash, loan and deposit accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved.
  • Audit Support : Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Data Analysis : Support the team in conducting financial analysis, including cost analysis, profitability and performance metrics.
  • Payroll Support : Provides back up support for payroll and has general knowledge of payroll process.
  • Inventory : Maintains supply inventory and fixed asset records and monitors physical storage of the same.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to providing assistance to the COO and / or CFO as needed, including special projects, process improvements, and other accounting related tasks.
  • Supports a service-oriented atmosphere in accordance with Peoples Community Health Clinic Mission and Philosophy.
  • Works to improve work processes and clinical outcomes including health disparity and quality improvement collaboratives.
  • Assists in control of Peoples Community Health Clinic resources.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office products and Windows platform. 10-key knowledge. Must be comfortable or willing to gain knowledge of moving within an EHR computer system regularly.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people and as a member of a team.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.

    This position operates in a professional office environment and is not required to wear PPE to perform the essential functions of the position.

    Physical Demands :

    This position requires continuous sitting (67% - 100% of shift), occasional standing and walking (1% - 33% of shift), occasional sedentary lifting, pushing or pulling (under 20lbs. 1%-33% of shift), continuous sedentary physical demands (67% - 100% of shift), and continuous fine motor skills (67% - 100% of shift). Requires 20 / 40 near vision and moderate depth perception.

    Position Type / Expected Hours of Work :

    This is a full-time position. Typically work hours and days are between Monday and Friday,8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. and some flexibility in hours is allowed. Responsibilities occasionally may require irregular hours as deemed necessary. This may include an adjusted work schedule, long days, and early morning or late evening hours in order to meet client scheduling demands. The employee must work a minimum of 40.0 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

    Travel :

    Occasional travel and driving might be expected for this position.

    Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required. Master’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Previous accounting experience required with a preference for those with previous non-profit and / or health related experience.
