Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Insurance Underwriter/Processor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating insurance applications for personal lines risks to determine the risk involved and the appropriate coverage terms. This role requires a strong understanding of financial analysis, risk assessment, and underwriting principles. The Insurance Underwriter/Processor will work closely with agents and clients to ensure that all underwriting guidelines are met while maintaining a high level of customer service.
Responsibilities and essential duties
- Evaluate insurance applications and change requests by conducting thorough financial analysis and risk assessments. Produces declaration pages for new business, changes, anniversaries, cancellations, and reinstatements.
- Produces, assembles, and mail notices.
- Perform quantitative analysis to determine the insurability of applicants.
- Collect and analyze data relevant to underwriting decisions, including credit reports, claim reports, and other pertinent information.
- Assists agents with rating and underwriting questions.
- Conducts appropriate training sessions for the Associations agents.
- Provide inspection reports to agents.
- Collaborate with agents and clients to gather necessary information for underwriting decisions.
- Maintain accurate records of underwriting activities and decisions in compliance with company policies.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in underwriting.
- Underwrites changes and renewals within authority.
- Forwards all changes and renewals that exceed authority.
- Prepares renewal policies.
- Processes accounts receivable and/or accounts payable.
- Process and mail cancellations as required by policy.
- Assist with claim setup and other claim duties.
- Answer telephone and services the insured, agent, and the public in a professional and considerate manner.
- Handles questions and complaints from agents and insureds.
- Maintains company business in a confidential manner.
- Always present a positive image of the Association to the public, and acts to positively promote the Association's objectives.
- Any other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- Degree in business administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Personal lines insurance experience preferred.
- Proven experience in underwriting or a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in financial analysis, risk analysis, and underwriting principles.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple applications simultaneously.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently while handling daily interruptions.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
