- We provide on-the-job training and assist you in becoming a state certified water/wastewater operator, if you aren't already one.
- Work environment consists of working outdoors & requires a strong mechanical background to repair & maintain related equipment, such as blowers, pumps, etc.
PeopleService provides contract operations to small-to-medium-sized communities in the area of water/wastewater & we have contracted with the villages of Beemer & Cedar Bluffs.
What does a water/wastewater operator do:
- Treat water and wastewater by adding chemicals.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain various equipment such as blowers, pumps, etc.
- Monitor meters and gauges and accurately report readings.
- Read utility water meters.
- Typically works during the day, in addition to be on-call for a one-week period and perform weekend rounds based on a rotating schedule.
- Occasionally must respond to after-hour emergencies, such as sewer backups or water main breaks.
- Community with a variety of audiences - from consumers to regulatory staff; therefore, must provide a high level of customer service using tact and diplomacy.
- Often exposed to unpleasant odors, dangerous gases, malfunctioning equipment, confined spaces, heights, and underground, as well as various weather conditions.
