Scope of Position
The Quality Control Technician collaborates with Product Development, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain teams to oversee the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for both new product development and resourced in-line products and components. This role ensures quality standards are met and documentation is accurately maintained.
Organizational Relationships
Reports to the Director of Quality.
Works closely with teams and individuals in the Design, Supply Chain, Quality, and Asian Sourcing departments.
Responsibilities
Product Development Support (20% of time) :
Collaborate with Product Development to gain a thorough understanding of products and contribute to the creation and review of the 1Factory document set, including drawings and related specifications.
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) :
Develop and implement documentation to support an effective PPAP process.
Translate product attributes and designs in t o Quality Specifications (QCRs) and Quality Control Requirements for outsourced components during new product development and resourcing.
Organize and lead PPAP meetings with relevant teams to finalize Specifications / QCRs.
Manage the PPAP process for outsourced components, ensuring clear documentation, orderly execution, and adherence to timelines.
Address and resolve issues, such as errors, delays, or quality / engineering concerns, during the PPAP process.
Quality Inspections and Corrections :
Generate and issue Corrective Action Reports (CARs) to suppliers when issues arise.
Follow up with suppliers to ensure documented corrective actions are implemented for subsequent production orders.
Operate or oversee the operation of the Digital 3D Scanner for quality inspections and the creation of new models.
Utilize Pro-Engineer Creo or SolidWorks to develop 3D models based on scanned components.
Documentation and Records Management :
Maintain well-organized and accessible files of all documentation for reference during and after product development.
Collaborate with the Director of Quality to define appropriate inspection criteria for outsourced components throughout the PPAP process and during initial production.
International Collaboration :
Potential for future international travel to troubleshoot supplier issues and maintain quality standards overseas.
Qualifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport for international travel.
Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of Production Part Approval Processes (PPAP), quality systems, and inspection best practices.
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling using platforms such as Pro-Engineer Creo or SolidWorks.
Familiarity with materials such as wood, aluminum, stainless steel, plastics, and foam.
Strong computer skills and adaptability across various software platforms.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Furniture Design, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
