What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Foreman position at Peoria Park District?
Duties: Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Maintenance & Repair, the Construction Foreman is responsible for:
- Landscape construction for grounds, including retaining walls, flagstone walks, repair and installation of park facilities, including walks, curbs and culverts, fireplaces, benches, fountains, tennis courts, building foundations and other construction.
- Must be able to train, motivate and direct the actions of assigned staff.
- Supervise assigned staff, maintain staff records, complete payrolls, and perform employee evaluations.
- Organize, prioritize, and assign work in a logical and efficient manner.
- Maintaining and repairing roadways and parking lots. Planting and transplanting young trees and shrubs. Requisitioning supplies and equipment.
- Keeping time records and making required reports.
- Communicate effectively with district staff regarding work efforts at their facility.
- Working with other parks division maintenance crews on an as needed basis.
- Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Pay Scale: Apprentice Rate: $26.14 per hour; After 3 months, base pay: $32.67 per hour. Maximum pay rate is $34.67 per hour.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to reach equipment required for completing job duties.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle weighing 16 tons.
- Ability to operate power machinery relative to job duties.
- Ability to understand and complete record keeping and paperwork relative to job duties.
Education: A high school diploma or junior college certificate required.
Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in concrete construction, general construction, installation of retaining walls, and culvert repairs. A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience is required. Must maintain a valid Illinois State CDL.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Basic knowledge of construction and landscaping.
- Ability to work effectively with Park District personnel and supervise workmen as assigned.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
- Personal: Work record that shows reliability, initiative, creativity, tact and resourcefulness.
- This position is represented by the Teamsters Local Union No. 627.
