Description
Duties: Under the direction of the Environmental Health & Safety Manager, the Environmental Health & Safety Intern will be responsible for the following:
Assist with the development and implementation of various existing and new strategies including programs, processes, and assisting in specific EHS training programs for employees and patrons of the District.
Work with EHS Manager to ensure the effective application of established safety practices, utilization of safety equipment and devices and to investigate and eliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe conditions.
Learn how an EHS professional relies on state and federal guidelines in a Park and Recreation environment.
Exhibit a positive and creative attitude while providing exceptional customer service.
Other technical and general duties as required and requested in support of the EHS Manager.
Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to bend at waist and knees in order to file.
Ability to understand and complete record keeping and paperwork relative to job duties.
Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard.
Ability to maintain close concentration for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Current enrollment as a Junior or Senior college undergraduate is required. Enrollment in the Environmental Health and Safety program, with a focus in safety, is preferred.
Experience: Experience or interest in parks and recreation General Industry Standards; 29 CFR 1910.
Knowledge and Ability:
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, via video chat, and e-mail.
- Must be organized, able to multi-task, and complete assigned tasks on time.
- Ability to work independently and maintain a flexible schedule.
- Ability to develop and maintain key project metrics and assure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate policies.
- Ability to be a self-starter who is results-oriented, resourceful, analytical, innovative, and intellectually curious.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong ability to embrace and adapt to change in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
