Our client is mid-size law Firm in New York City with a large and sophisticated team of attorneys and professionals. The Firm is seeking a motivated L&E Associate Attorney to join our dynamic Employment practice group in the new York office. The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of experience, with a keen interest in employment law. Responsibilities :
- Appear at Court hearings for, among other things, Motion for Preliminary Approval, Motion for Final Approval, Status Conferences (after settlement), and Accounting Hearings after disbursement
- Communicate with clients, and Settlement Administrators, and coordinate with staff who also communicate with the Settlement Administrator and review Class Notices.
- Keep track of Proposed Orders filed with the Court for signature to begin settlement administration.
- Coordinate with staff to ensure all dates are calendared, including hearings, deadlines to submit briefings, administration deadlines, and payment schedules.
- Supervise staff to ensure filings are completed, follow-ups with clients are completed regarding the signing of settlement agreements and declarations, and client updates are timely performed, among other things.
- Provide recommendations on settlement negotiations.
- Collaborate with the supervising attorney on initial pre-filing case work-up
- Engage in client meetings, ensuring effective communication
- Draft complaints with precision and attention to detail
- Skillfully handle discovery by propounding and responding to inquiries
- Take and defend depositions confidently and adeptly
- Conduct thorough case-related investigations
- Contribute to law and motion work
- Assist with trial preparation
Qualifications / Requirements :
Minimum 5 years of experience handling labor & employment law cases.
Experience handling depositions, pretrial motions, and litigation work from inception to settlement / verdict.
Experience drafting various pleadings and complex motions including but not limited to class certification motions, class-wide settlement agreements, and preliminary / final approval motions.
Able to work independently as well as a team player.
