Description
Position Overview: Responsible for designated exhibitions, research, publications, acquisitions, and donor contacts related to PAMM's exhibitions and permanent collection. Under the supervision of the Deputy Director for Curatorial and Programs, delegates curatorial and administrative duties to Curatorial subordinates. In tandem with Curatorial staff, assist in research, development and realization of the annual exhibition schedule, including participation in selection, organization, and realization of traveling exhibitions, PAMM-initiated exhibitions, and New Work series to support and express the Museum's mission. Collaborate closely with Collection and Exhibition Support and Education staff, as well as outside Curators and artists, to assure professional, efficient, and quality presentation of all designated exhibitions.
Requirements
Required Degree: Bachelor’s Degree/4-Year Degree
Qualifications:
- ?BA degree in Art History or a related field
- Three to five years’ previous museum curatorial related experience
- Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Computer literacy
- Supervisory skills
- Knowledge of publication production and copyright
- Knowledge of production, reproduction, handling, and use of visual materials
- Knowledge of exhibition development and organization
- Knowledge of contemporary art of the Western Hemisphere

Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Art History Preferred

Physical Demands:

Essential Functions included, but are not limited to:
- Assist Deputy Director for Curatorial and Programs in development and
- oversight of Curatorial budget.
- In absence of Deputy Director for Curatorial and Programs, oversee Division's
- operations.
- Collaborate with Marketing staff to select visual materials for promotions for
- designated exhibitions; assist in identifying exhibition promotion opportunities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with members of arts community, including artist, Curators, writers, journalists, collectors, and cultural institutions.
- Provide expertise and information to Grant writer for grant applications and for general fundraising activities, as needed. Help identify potential donors in conjunction with designated exhibitions.
PAMM-Organized Exhibitions
- Contribute to the annual planning of exhibitions.
- Conceptualize, research, and present visual materials and budgetary information for approval process.
- Work with artists and outside institutions to develop exhibition loan contracts, work timetables, and installation schedules for designated exhibitions in collaboration with appropriate MAM staff.
- In collaboration with Publications staff, develop and produce exhibition
- publications.
- Contract with and oversee photographers and select images for reproduction;
- oversee production and scheduling.
- Develop tour packages and scheduling, when appropriate.
- In collaboration with Publications staff, write, edit, and produce Gallery Notes, when appropriate. Develop designated New Work Gallery Notes, when appropriate; select writers, contract for writing, design, and production staff.
- Acknowledge donors and lenders, including special invitations and thank yous.
- Develop artist contracts for designated New Work exhibitions.
Traveling Exhibitions
- Collaborate with Deputy Director for Curatorial and Programs and Curatorial staff in preliminary review of incoming proposals for MAM consideration, including review for artistic merit, mission appropriateness, budget, and scheduling factors.
- Collaborate with Deputy Director for Curatorial and Programs and Curatorial staff in proposal process, including preparation for presentation of exhibitions to the Exhibitions Committee and Board of Trustees.
- Act as MAM point person and liaison with organizing institution to obtain all exhibition information for distribution to MAM departments and designated exhibitions.
- Select and distribute all visual materials for promotion of designated exhibitions.
- Responsible for exhibition installation design, graphics, and exhibition layout on designated exhibitions and consequent collaboration with Director of Exhibition Design.
- In collaboration with Publication staff, develop printed material on designated exhibitions.
- Compile requested information and writing of all exhibition reports on designated exhibitions.
- Oversee acknowledgement of donors, lenders, and all participants for designated exhibitions.
- Responsible for budget development and oversight on designated projects.
- Research and assist Publications staff in production of Gallery Notes on designated exhibitions.
Research and Planning
- Conduct research for possible future exhibitions.
- Assist Deputy Director for Curatorial and Programs in organizing and developing Exhibition Committee Meetings (four per year, or as needed), including presentation of proposed exhibitions, visual, budgetary and scheduling information for consideration by the Committee.
- Participate in exhibition presentations to staff of upcoming exhibitions.
- Collaborate with Deputy Director for Curatorial and Programs to develop procedures and planning schedules.
- Contribute to research, development, and organization of artist and donor files for collection and Curatorial Research Library.
Education
- Work with Education Staff to identify and implement outreach collaborations, including special events and programs, planning symposia, film series, and lectures in conjunction with exhibitions.
- Select video and reading room materials for designated exhibitions and collaborate on the content of visitor's galleries.
- Provide exhibition tours upon request.
- Participate in Institution for Educators on designated exhibitions.
