Greenhouse Shopkeeper Job Description

Do you love plants, people, design, and working outdoors? If so, the greenhouse shopkeeper position could be a perfect fit for you! For all four seasons, you would provide excellent customer service to guests of our Strasburg, PA greenhouse. A task-oriented, customer-focused individual who enjoys a fast-paced environment, cleanliness, and organization would be best suited for the position. Lifting heavy ceramic pottery is part of this position and physical fitness is a must.

Hours: 10-40 hours weekly, varies seasonally.

The Strasburg greenhouse is open M-S 9-5 or 8-6, depending on the season. Hours vary with each season and during the busiest weeks of the season, seasonal overtime is available. Slow seasons are July/August and January/February and work may not be available.

Responsibilities:

Open/close store, properly handle cash reconciliation according to company procedures

Care for plants in the greenhouse: watering, fertilizing, trimming

Unload plant trucks and organize plants according to like varieties

Keep a tidy greenhouse environment

Restock merchandise

Track and update data on Google docs/spreadsheets

Assist customers with plant selection and planter design

Assist customers with pottery selection and loading of heavy pottery carefully into vehicles

Take orders for onsite planter service

Use POS system to efficiently ring out customers

Provide excellence in customer service to build repeat business based on relationships with customers

Be willing to do miscellaneous tasks in the greenhouse or other company locations or take time off during slow seasons

Communicate and collaborate with all team members

Qualifications:

Be able to lift up to 50lbs regularly and 100 lbs occasionally with assistance and stand for entire shift

Have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Have a smartphone with the ability to access company communication app, Google docs and spreadsheets

Be a prompt, thorough, and positive communicator

Have a design eye and attention to detail

Ability to endure long days and extreme cold and hot temperatures

Background check

Availability to work most Saturdays

$14 training rate 1 month / $15 starting pay after 1 month
